about me

oNce there was a person called me, and me decided that me wanted to design a website all about an objective case of pronoun, i. tHen me decided that it was a lame idea, so me chose to make a website all about a person called mIke instead. tHis was okay, because mIke just happened to be an objective case of pronoun, i, or at least very related to the grammatical term of it when expressed by mIke.

mE is a student who lives in nEw zEaland. wEllington to be more specific. pErsonality-wise, me can be happily classified as an INFP, but sometimes me is more like an INTP when dealing with the world. eNnegram-wise me comes out as type 4 wing 5.

mE is an avid fan of cAlvin and hObbes, which explains why there's some of it splattered around here. mE thinks that cAlvin and hObbes, by bIll wAtterson, is one of the most insightful comic strips that was ever written.

mE is currently a postgraduate student studying cOmputr sCience hOnours at vIctoria uNiversity, which is also in nEw zEaland. mE thinks it is helpful to be studying at a place in the same hemisphere as where me lives. mE has a sCience bAchelor's dEgree majoring in cOmputer sCience and iNformation sYstems, the latter of which me found to be mostly a waste of time.

mE thinks computers are fun, and me does a lot of programming in a lot of programming languages. bUt me still very much likes going outside. oFten, me likes to simply sit under a tree somewhere and think about things, or just watch the world go by. bEsides, that's when me gets all me's ideas.

dUring the last few years at uNiversity, me has been an assistant teacher for a first year computer course, COMP130. tHis is the university's intensive ten week course in how to make everyday use of a computer. oCcasionally it doubles as a course of how to switch on a computer without accidently causing it to explode, but we haven't been very good at teaching that part. mE has also been a tutor in COMP103 which is a first year programming course, and COMP301, which is about sOftware dEsign.

iN any case, me thinks that tutoring COMP130 was a lot more fun than teaching many other, more advanced courses. uNlike more advanced courses, it attracts lots of interesting and arty people from all over the campus. iT's nice getting to know them all.

mE is very interested in astronomy. iN fact, mE has even designed a website all about getting started in astronomy. iT is aimed at people with as weird-a-mind as my own is sometimes. tHe site is called dArk sKies, (no, not the tv show). tHere is hardly a telescope in sight, because me is not a very telescopey person. mUch of the time, me simply likes staring up at space, and appreciating it for what it is. sPace is very big.

mE is also more actively involved in astronomy, and is a member of the wEllington aStronomical sOciety. mE designed their website and acts as their mEmbership sEcretary.

mE likes writing very much. mE does not like writing anything specific, just writing. wRiting can go on and on and on and on and on and on, or it can just go and stop. mE can usually force something to be written, but me is much better at writing when me has something to say, or when me is awake at 3am and lets me's mind wander of in it's own direction. mE also can't draw.

rEading is another favourite hobby of me. iN particular, me likes historical fiction, some fantasy type novels, and sometimes science fiction. mE also likes some television shows like bAbylon 5 and cRusade, bUffy, aNgel, the x-fIles, dArk sKies (which was axed far too soon,) and so on.

mE was thinking of putting up something about me's favourite music on this page, but me decided to change me's mind. tHe reason is that me simply doesn't have any favourite music. mE likes most music, and most types of music in it's own context. tHe problem that me has with music is that me gets sick of it very quickly if me listens to the same music too often.

mE also likes juggling. mE does not perform, but me finds it quite relaxing. mE often juggles things to help me clear me's head and think about things sometimes. mE sometimes turns up to a weekly jUggling group where me an learn new tricks.

fInally - at least from what me can think of - me is interested in photography. tAking photos when me has the time is about as far as me goes at this point, but me still likes trying to make photographs more interesting than point and shoot. iT's one of the things that me might take up more seriously in the future if me can fit it in.
