Rhaegara found the EQ Glossary on the web
Bind - The
spell that sets where your character reappears after death. By default this will
be the furthest possible point from wherever it is you feel like hunting at that
particular moment.
Camping - One of the truly lovely aspects of EQ.
The process of making your virtual character sit on his virtual butt for up to
100 hours of online time waiting for a virtual frog/goblin/gnoll etc to spawn so
your party can kill it and begin squabbling over whose turn it was to loot the
rare item. In the end most people forgo camping and simply buy the item off
Ebay. The people for whom they buy these items are those who make camping their
profession. This means camping and selling items on Ebay is the only trade skill
in EQ known to work at this time. Verant is currently in negotiations to buy
Ebay so they can nerf this process.
Con - An NPC or MOBs level relative to your own,
color coded for easy and fast determination of your chances against it in
battle. Cons go from green to red like thus: Green - probably will kill you,
Blue - Very likely will kill you, White - LOADING, PLEASE WAIT, Yellow - LOADING
PLEASE WAIT, Red - LOADING PLEASE WAIT
Guard - A special type of NPC that stands around
alternately glowering dubiously at some players and smiling warmly at others.
The job of these level 45ish characters in full plate armour is to protect their
cities from being invaded by giant skunks and wasps and to kill newbie bards who
just bought Chords of Dissonance and forgot to turn it off. Have a nasty habit
of being AWOL when a player needs help with some pissed-off MOB on his tail,
only to appear suddenly ten miles from nowhere to "save" you from a
yellow con you had down to 5HP.
Infravision - An attribute possessed by some races
in the game whereby they can see in the dark almost as well as a legally-blind
real life human with one glass eye wearing a blindfold ina closet. Races with
infravision do not have this helpful ability and suffer a bit during the game's
night periods.
Kill Stealer - Any caster that successfully kills a
MOB anywhere, any times, even if he/she is the only in the zone.
Kite - A combat tactic that allowed certain classes
to successfully kill MOBs, something Verant aparently is against, has been
nerfed.
LD - Linkdead, crashed, went offline, lost
connection suddenly etc. Usually happens in one of two situations 1. camping
really tough rooms just as three level 35 mobs spawn (usually in this instance
it's all five of your group mates that go LD) and 2. just as your character is
running for the zone border with a hill giant on your heels. Verant has now
added a thoughtful "So-and-so has gone linkdead" message when your
groupmates drop so you no longer have to wonder if they're really LD or if
they're just standing around watching while you solo those two spectres.
Loot - Money, weapons, magic items etc that can be
found on the corpses of Mobs. Unfortunately Mob corpses are not just lying
around - you have to manufacture them yourself (see Con) to acquire loot from a
mobs corpse. This often requires an agreed upon order beforehand to avoid
arguments over who has the rights to the goodies. Many parties use the
alphabetic system, which is why you see so many characters nowadays named
Aaaaamandarn and Aaaaaaaaaaaaandrielle. Some parties use a random process. In
either case, as soon as the rare loot appears it is the job of one person in the
party to loot it out of turn and offer "Hey, I haven't looted anything in
ten minutes!" as an excuse.
Nerf - The act of reducing the effectiveness of a
class or skill when it becomes apparent people are succeeding at it. This
process happens to every class and every skill at some point. It is believed
that by the year 2003 all the classes will have only hand to hand combat and no
spells except Identify Item, and will be able to use Sense Heading only, at
which point the game will be declared perfectly balanced. After the following
patch, in the name of game balance, Identify Item will be removed from all
spellcasters.
NPC - Non-player character. Can be distinguished
from player characters by the fact that NPCs will actually appear to speak and
spell correct English much of the time.
Powergamer - Term used with derision to describe
anyone who levels faster than you do.
Trade Skill
- A "career" that a player can take up in-game to earn money. The
moment the player discovers a trade skill that allows him/her to make money, the
skill is nerfed and the process starts over.
Train - A flock of angry mobs chasing some poor
character to the zone border. The group of monsters picks up others along the
way until an entire line of them is chasing the poor sap. The
"trainer" may or may not warn his unsuspecting fellow players (the
"trainees") at the zone border of the oncoming slaughter via a /shout
(don't bet your life on it). Some zones in the game are so frequented by trains
that most of the mobs are permanently at the border making the depths of the
dungeons often the safest places to be for some peace and quiet. See Unrest,
Mistmoore, Caiz Thule, Runnyeye, Crushbone, Befallen, Guk, Najena, Solusek,
Permafrost, Blackburrow.
Twink - The act of giving newbie characters,
usually the twinkers own, very high level equipment or armour for the express
purpose of allowing those characters to level quickly to the point that they can
go get more of the same armour to give back to the original character (or
something like that). Also a character wielding weapons/armour he/she is too low
or lazy to get for him/herself.

The following are a selection of verses posted by Micke, our resident wise
soul.
Don't cry with your eyes
Do it with your heart.
Every heartbeat of Fenris.
Just get us closer and more stronger.
The true path of life is just the beginning.
I was running through Norrath badly wounded. I zoned and there she stood.
Like an angel from heaven sent. With a shimmer of light all around her.
She knelt down and started to heal my wounds.
I wanted to tell her that she was the most beautyful thing I had seen in this hard world.
But i was to weak and I could only raise a smile towards her lovely face.
I felt the lifeforce was returning into my body from her gentle hands.
"Its time to rest my brave one", I heard her say.
When I finally got my senses back she was gone.
Who was this lovely I met?
Until to day I do not know.
But I know someday our roads will cross again.
Let your soul flow in the wind.
The force is not our enemy.
Its our companion.
Follow and be strong.

A love poem, of sorts.....
I've just lifted this off one the threads in
the monk forums, enjoy :
Deep within the Oasis of Marr, I found myself out hunting one day.
Marauding bands of warrior orcs my companions and I did slay.
After some time, we chanced to find a troll who was fighting alone.
Happily, we took him into our group, and with him, began to roam.
Gradually, I came to know and learned to like this troll.
His visage was not pleasing, but he had a gentle soul.
He taunted our enemies away from me; never did I get hit,
And I sang for him and healed his wounds and kept him well and fit.
The battle against the Oasis orcs raged on for quite some time,
But ere long, I knew my heart was his, and Drugal’s heart was mine.
As I sang for him an anthem to make his arms grow stronger,
I wondered if ever we’d be alone… I couldn’t wait much longer!
Finally, our chance had come, our companions camped out for the night.
We lagged behind, my love and I, though we did not stay to fight.
Gingerly, he clasped my waist in one tremendous fist,
Longingly, I gazed up at him, eager to be kissed.
As he pulled me close I startled and my heart near filled with dread.
“How can we ever kiss?” I cried, “Your mouth is bigger than my head!”
Tenderly he cradled me, and I felt so very small.
I knew to all the world I looked just like a trollish doll.
I buried my head against his chest, and wept and then he said,
“Iz not yer fault dat yer so small, youse jus been underfed.”
Just then, a gentle shaman wandered by and spied my tears.
He paused, concerned, and queried, “Whatever is wrong, my dear?”
Haltingly, I found my voice, and revealed my tragic tale,
That my lover was ten times my size, and our union doomed to fail.
He pondered a moment, and then replied, “There is a way, I think.”
He chanted a spell and waved his hands, and my Drugal began to shrink!
Happily, I seized my troll for a long-awaited kiss…
Now that he was wood-elf height, my love was forever his.
Gratefully, I turned to thank our wise new shaman friend.
For I knew that without his timely aid, our love was doomed to end.
“Sir, How can I repay you? Is there anything you need?”
He shook his head, then grinned and said, “Just promise not to breed.”
Comments: Ohhh...thats not right....
