When i'm not on holiday...or finishing some cool project 4 myself...
I'm a third year university student, studying for a BSc. in Computer Science at Victoria University of Wellington. - And due to some hardcore work, i'm due to graduate this year, and go out into the big wide world... hmmm. Sounds like a lotta fun. (hmmm)

When I have a bit of spare time you will usually find me in front of a computer somewhere...and occasionally online....ICQ:21801823....though even more so these daze, with the advent of free internet providers - at the moment i have a pay ISP (paradise.net) who host this page ...and rock so much... but  also have an account with i4free  and one with Zfree but i can't remember the user name for Zfree (so i signed up again) and i4free is cool... so i use that a lot...then there's free.net.nz  I even signed up with AllAdvantage.com and get paid for using a free internet connection  (NZ$0.80 a hour!)... Since it's free... i'm gonna move my webcam pictures to geocities (actually..they don't let me upload an htm_ file so i found a new host... netfirms.com - they are cool...even cgi etc.. here), and then'll just need a new phoneline and i'll leave it on permanantly...(once i get the webcam going...with windows and all...)
I'm usually getting frustrated with windows and it's habits of crashing...(i also run redhat linux)..or playing around with some JavaScript...or brainstorming some new idea to try out on my WebPages...and coding it into HTML...or java script.

Just recently I started looking at WML and WAP, for cellphones and portable internet devices, I'm putting up a bit of a WML version of my site.. but it's still in construction and if you don't have a cool cellphone you'd better try something like the emulator at  yospace.com

Then theres the Electronics, Digital Circuits.. and alsorts of fun hardware things..

I do a bit of work occasionally....when I feel the need: (school fees!).

In the past:  I have managed to become proficient in Java, C++, and have taught myself JavaScript and HTML during my years at university - and this yr i'm learning the nuances of UML - and exploring flash, wml, wap, js, and java in my spare time, Back even further in time...part of comp. was being forced to do a bit of Pascal and Binary Arithmetic (ouch!) during College.  After I shifted out of home and changed Colleges in 1996 (6th form), and became the Proxime Accessit there, almost fulfilling one of my dreams of becoming Dux.  In the process of this I enjoyed two years worth of drama productions, Dragon boating with the school team, and met a few good friends.

In 2000..... well... as i said, end of this year in the big graduation thing... and the big job thing.. hence i even put my CV online.. 

19-July-2K: back into it..exams finished..the holidaze flew (work) ..i even passed reasonably well ....and before I knew it the second half fee's were due... man I *love* fees... so that little aspect is now out of the way and Ican settle into uni again... maybe even some A+'s to finish up my time here.. maybe. Doing ELCM, Comp: AI and Data Comms, and Digital Electronics.. all fun... but my timetable has a clash (elec. and elcm) so i'll have to sort that somehow (skip one of the classes?).
Looking forward to it all.
Apart from the clash...my timetable is mostly empty...so i'm out to find a little part time job to supplement to weight of my wallet.

I'm even selling my car for that extra bit of cash... so if you want a 1979 Honda Civic that is the coolest little beast ever..0-90km/h in about 11 secs... auto (hondamatic)... no warrant or rego at the moment...but they shouldn't be a problem...just a bit of paint... and tires -> have a look at the picture gallery of it here: http://mangee.netfirms.com/car/

Like... 12 June 2K! Well the days just fly when you're having fun!!? NOT.   All that end of term assesment and other very joyful thigs like that... about 5 assignments due in last week!.. and much more... but it will all be over soon... and i can work for the holidaze.. :)
My clock got sorta finished.. but then i found something more fun.. (next week maybe)....Such is life!!... I got exams coming up about the 20th... wish me luck.. should be sweet though... Bye bye..

8-MAY-2K More daze go past... too much happening. Uni is back into it after the short Easter Break (which was non-existant for me). I spent the two weeks holiday working (=$$) ... then the easter weekend was spent doing all those asssignments the evil ppl @ uni give you... Then back into it... been back a couple of week - handed in lotz of assignmenets... the stress is relieved (for the moment: i have about a ream of paper worth of assignments due in the next few weeks). But life is all good...

-Played round with my javascript clock idea and eventually got it working (though it's slow as)... check it out..
Uhm... It's wintery at the moment... that sux... it seems like about three paragraphs ago it was winter... but still.. i don't have lectures till 12pm some daze.. So sleep is an option.

My new cellphone rocks (a nokia 3210) lotta fun with it... MSG me (send me a txt msg via mtnsms.com (cause they rok!)) - I'm working on an interactive messaging thingy through my cell phone.. but if you wanna ring me... its +6421526684 or 021JBOOTH from nz

I shifted... to Petone, Hutt City, NZ.. and i'm still there... so my plan thingy is a bit outta date... but who knows... i might make a new one..
 
 

7-MAR-2000 Today was wet and generally useless as a day... i got up too early... thought it was Monday.. and went into Uni early... sat around doing nothing much for the extra time... went to an optional math tut! .. and saw a few mates.. chatted.. .all that..
Relearned a few of the bits of Java I have managed to forget in the last few yrs..
We have to do this Assignment using threads.. and Java.. such fun.
Then somehow i fooled by brain into thinking i had been to my maths lecture.. (musta been the bit where i forgot my lunch) and went to my comp lecture (at 3pm - instead of 4pm).. sat there in the empty lecture theatre until i realised i was in the wrong place.. and went off to find my math 214 lecture.. bumped into a friend.. chatted till 3:15.. got to the lecture late.. that was ok.. hadn't started yet..
Sat through that.. Graph Theory and all.. Went to my Software Eng. Lecture.. got voted in as class rep.. Sat through two hours of software engineering..
caught a bus home.. it was wet the whole day...
This evening i played around with my webpage.. put a few pics online.. and slept.. (later)

23-JAN-2000 It think this needs some attention... one day...

24-7-99 -> 25-7-99 Playing PlayStaion in our dark cold games room for prolonged periods leads to sore head, fingers, eyes, dead brain, and cold legs... But Siphon Filter is pretty primo.... and Driver rocks! CheFu (or whatever) sux.  TaiFu rocks, and that Star Wars game is ripped straight off Doom (ie: boring).
Sleep....!

23-7-99 [see yesterday] M. came home with a new VCR to replace the stuffed one... Which she'll get fixed later.. "joe..? can you get this working?..".
"sure..."
So I hook it all up: "hey! did this come with any more leads?"
"no... not that I remember..."
"oh well ... too bad ..uhm..this has no power lead..!"
"what?!"
Yeah, you got it.. no power lead (it was second hand).
So five minutes later.. Ah ha.. cams stereo again..
cam: "hey... that's my stereo power lead!!...and have you seen my RCA cables?"
"yeah... here they are...oh well: find another lead..."
Eventually after much prolonged search to the futherest corners of the earth, a suitable power lead was procured...and it all worked...

Tuned in...

"hey! did you know this VCR has a game!!"
"no....?"

Two hours later: I now have very sore fingers from trying to beat my high score on the VCR game using the remote...and I have it! I am the master!!...
"uhm...joe... can I watch TV now?"
"oh....sorry....I got the high score! I got the..."

Thus ended the saga.

22-7-99[Thus began the saga] Earlier on tonight I had an interesting encounter with a VCR.
About 7:45 pm I gotta call from M. telling me that she couldn't seem to get her VCR working, and she wanted to tape a program at 8:30 (the last of the series... which she won't watch till it's all on tape...).
So I thought: sweet as....I'll just come over and have a look.
I walked over to her house, and had a look. It turned out that the VCR was doing a real strange thing when asked to play a tape. It would play it really slow as if frame by frame speed was on... or not at all.

Obviously this VCR was not going to tape a program.

So I asked if their was another VCR.. sure, there's one in the front house. Cool.. I go and get it.. plug it in and go to tune it into Prime TV (the channel she wanted to tape).
One problem! It's one of these VCR's with no buttons on the front... and the remote was lost eons ago.
Oh well, sorry, I can't tune it in........
Five minutes later.. I had a thought (wow!).
Five minutes after that I had scabbed enough RCA leads (from cams stereo), and the VCR's got piggy-backed.. the stuffed one did the tuning and the other recorded...
only problem was I couldn't check whether it was working... only hope.

Sure enough, it taped, and the world didn't come to an end.
Even still... VCR's... too much effort!
Just don't watch any TV... solve that problem. <continued tomorrow>

20-7-99 Back into it all...  the second day of the second week back at uni.  Such fun.  Rain Rain (Rain).. Well I suppose we all have to have some form of winter once a year... In reality it didn't rain that much just a couple of daze inna row..  Today was FINE!  and sunny...whereas everywhere else in the country it seemed to be raining... I even submitted to wearing shorts.. (it must have been good!).  I realised that I didn't have to go into uni today.. so I stayed at home, and did some homework (including the vacuuming!).  Surfed the web a bit.. though about new content for my pages.. and all that..

19-7-99 A new week... comp book still isn't available at the notes shop.. the slackers!  Today it rained.. this was bad.. but I survived..  Had an interesting experience in Psyc 121.. as I wrote in an email earlier today:

"It was raining outside for most of the day... and so I was glad to get in a warm dry lecture theatre... then I felt a drop of water in my arm, then another and it started to rain on me (only me) in the middle of the lecture theatre... There was a small leak in the roof and I just happened to be the lucky person to sit under it... So when someone came along looking for a seat, I graciously gave them mine and moved over... The problem was the girl who sat there decided to stay and complained the whole lecture about the rain drops on her lecture notes.... Still, it's not every day it rains inside during a lecture... "

14-7-99 Joy... University life..  Homework..  Space aliens with theories of infinite primes..  stuff like that..  The first few daze back have been good... Comp is heating up.. interesting lecturer in 202, really into math and space aliens and how they will think.. and whether they will have the same mathematical ideas as us.. (if they exist)..  Psyc and Comp 203 are very complementary.. both about how computing happens.. except one is about brains and behavior, the other about computer architecture..  Life is fine.  Winter is coming.. (according to the dismal weather report.. )

9-7-99 Hey I just realised that I meant to go back to uni on the 12th... not the 18th...  I think I was mislead by my GF... she goes back on the 18th..  but I have to go back on Monday...Oh well..  such is life.. I'm sure it'll be sorta cool to be back at that institution where we learn stuff (well some of the time)...  cya later.

29-6-99 At the moment i'm on Holiday!! I don't have to go back to uni. till  about the 18th of July.  This is good....so much time on my hands..! and who knows.. my Website might get some new content?  I might even succumb to working to pay for my fees for the second trimester... (donations gladly accepted).
