When Nelson Had A Railway - The Life and Death of New Zealand's Last Isolated Railway 1876 - 1955
By Barry O'Donnell
Published By Schematics Ltd
At 288 pages, little seems left to chance when covering this 103km long railway. There has been copious use made of photographs which allude to the social history as well as the physical history of the railway. It reflects the passions of the local people wishing to see the line developed to become part of the national network; and the dismay when closure was announced, as well as the famous protests against the demolition. The extensive research includes a full staff list. The locomotives and rolling stock are not forgotten either.
