November / December News Update
The return to warmer weather has been marked with an increase in patronage. A particularly memorable charter occurred in early November, the British Enthusiasts getting more than they bargained for when our 1873 built steam locomotive A67 encountered weeds when hauling their heavy train; creating spectacular wheelslip and accompanying sound effects. The photo run-bys and carriage shed tour were also well received by the visitors. A strange irony occurred when our dilapidated concrete mixer left for an overhaul after being dormant for several years, on the same evening that a considerable quantity of bags of cement were donated. Refurbishing the ceiling of wagon K610 is progressing well with two thirds of it now painted. This is a particularly long, tedious and dusty job. The sunken and loose joints on the road crossing have been repaired. This involved cutting the seal, excavating the sub-base under the track and backfilling with reinforced concrete. The problem had been caused by wide sleeper spacing around the joint; the sleepers exposed by the repair work are still in good order. Some useful revenue has been procured through undertaking some repairs on a private siding. The final T wagon door has been removed in preparation for overhaul. |
