1861 Apr 13 At a vestry meeting held this 13th day of April 1861 at the Parish Church of Standon the notice of which meeting was given and adjourned to the Bell Inn. It was proposed that a Voluntary Church Rate of one penny halpenny in the Pound be made and unanimously agreed to. Present: Thos. Chapman and John Acres (churchwardens), Chas. Chapman, James Knight, Thos N. Burr, James Whitaker, J. B. Smith, Thos. Kite, Thos. Johnson, Jas. Chapman, A. Waller, George Underwood, Thomas Finn?, Richd. Chambers.

1862 Apr 25 At a vestry meeting held at Standon Church on Friday the 25th of April 1862 of which due notice was given Mr
George Chambers Junr of Standon Friars was appointed Church warden on the part of the vicar, and Mr John Acres was re-appointed on the part of the Parish. Charles Puller, Chairman.
1862 Jun 6 At a Vestry held at Standon Church on Friday the 6th of June 1861 [for the purpose of making a Church Rate] of which due notice was given it was proposed by Mr Johnson and seconded by Mr J. B. Smith that the vestry be adjourned to the Friday the 20th day of June 1862 Geo. Chambers Junr, Chairman. Moved at the above mentioned Vestry by Mr ... and recommended by Mr Johnson that Mr W. G.? Puller Esqr be written to requesting him to furnish the Parish with a map of the new district of High Cross. Geo. Chambers Junr, Chairman. At an adjourned vestry held at Standon Church for the purpose of making a Church Rate it was proposed by Mr Johnson and seconded by Mr Chapman that a rate be levied on the Standon district excepting the High Cross district an amendment was then made by Dr Weathers that a rate be levied on the whole parish not excepting High Cross which amendment was carried by a majority of five to four. - Dr Weathers also demanded an account of the receipts and expenditure of the last legal rate. 1862 Jun 27 At an vestry meeting held at Standon Church for the purpose of making a Church Rate of which due notice had been given, on the 27th June 1862 it was proposed by Mr Smith and seconded by Mr Underwood that a rate be levied, on the whole parish, of four pence in the pound - for the necessary expenses and repairs of the Parish Church which rate was agreed to by the Vestry. Dr Weathers protests against any rate being levied before the accounts of former Churchwardens are provided and before certain illegal disbursements are redunded. Present: Geo. 1863 Apr 9 At a Vestry held at Standon Parish Church on Thursday April 9th of which due notice was given Mr George Chambers Junr of Standon Friars was reappointed Churchwarden on the part of the vicar and Mr John Acres of Mentley on the part of the Parish. Charles Puller, chairman.

1863 May 31 On Sunday the 31st day of May 1863 the following notice was affixed to the door of the Parish Church and of the other places for Public Worship in the parish of Standon. "Notice is hereby given that a Vestry of the inhabitants and occupiers assesed to the Relief of the poor of the parish of Standon in the diocese of Rochester in the County of Hertford will be holden in the Vestry room in the Church of the said Parish on the tenth day of June 1863 at 5 o'clock in the afternoon to take into consideration and determine upon the sum of money necessary for the purpose of restoring the Church and also to take into consideration and determine upon the propriety of directing and consenting that the Church-wardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish shall make application to the Commissioners authorised and empowered to make advances for Public Works under the Provisions of the Act 5th Geo 4th Chap 36 and of the Acts therein recited or referred to or subsequently passed for "amending" continuing or extending the same for a loan of all or any part of the sum of money necessary for the purpose aforesaid." 1863 Jun 10 At a Vestry of the Inhabitants and Occupiers asssessed to the relief of the poor of the Parish of Standon in the Diocese of Rochester in the County of Hertford held in the Vestry Room in the Church of the said Parish on the tenth day of June 1863 at 5 o'clock in the afternoon pursuant to a notice affixed to the door of the said church on Sunday the 31st of May in the same year... We the undersigned being the major part of the Inhabitants and Occupiers assessed to the relief of the Poor of the said Parish in Vestry assembled do hereby resolve and determine that the sum of money which is requisite for the purpose of restoring the Church amounts to 1500 pounds. And we the undersigned do hereby resolve, direct and consent that the Church wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish do with the consent of the Bishop of the Diocese and the Incumbent of the said Parish make application to the said commissioners for a loan of the sum of 800 pounds being a part of the sum of money requisite for the purpose aforesaid. 1863 Nov 24 Copy of Application to the Commissioners Sir, Pursuant to the authority given to us by the foregoing resolution we request that the Commissioners under the Public Works Loan Acts will be pleased to advance the sum of 800 pounds for the purpose mentioned in the said resolution, and we transmit herewith the consent of the Bishop of the Diocese and the Incumbent of the Parish to this Application. We are sir, Your Obedient Servants Geo. Chambers Junr and John Acres, churchwardens William Potter and James Knight, Overseers of the Poor It was further resolved at the Same Vestry on the motion of M. F. B. Smith seconded by Mr Johnson that the loan above agreed to be paid off by annual instalments in a period of ten years. Signed Charles Puller (Chairman). Resolved further that the following gentlemen be requested to form a Committee for the purpose of conducting and managing the works to be carried out in restoring the Church. The Vicar, Mr Geo. 1864 Feb 12 At a vestry meeting held this 12th day of February 1864 at the Parish Church Standon and adjourned to the Windmill Inn for the purpose of making a Poor Rate at one shilling in the pound which was agreed to the following Persons present:- J. B. Smith, Chairman, James Knight, A. Waller, Thos. Chapman, Thos. N. Burr. Memorandum. The rate made on the 12th day of February 1864 above referred to has been quashed and a new rate made in ... of the same on the 24th day of June 1864. Geo. Chambers Junr.

1864 Mar 29 At a vestry meeting held at Standon Church on the 29th day of March 1864 due notice of which was given the following persons were nominated to serve the following offices for the Parish for the ensuing year. 1864 Mar 31 At a Vestry held at Standon Church on Thursday the 31st day of March 1864 of which due notice was given Mr George Chambers Junr of Standon Friars was appointed Church warden on the part of the Vicar and Mr John Acres was reappointed on the part of the Parish. Charles Puller, Chairman.

1864 Jun 24 At a vestry held this 24th June 1864 at the parish Church of Standon for the purpose of making a poor rate at one shilling in the pound which was agreed to the following persons present: Geo. Chambers Jnr, Thos. Chapman, J. B. Smith, James Whitaker, Thomas Ginn, Chas. Chapman,
James Green.
1864 Jul 15 At a vestry held at Standon Church on Friday July 15th of which due notice was given it was proposed by Mr G. Chambers of Standon Friars and seconded by Mr J. B. Smith that a sum of two hundred and fifty pounds be offered by the Parish to the Railway Company to make a bridge of proper size with suitable approaches (the plans to be approved by the County Surveyor) to take the place of the present ford by the Paper Mill and carry the new Paper Mill road across the river. The motion was carried... C. Puller, Chairman It was further proposed that the following gentlemen be appointed to act as a Committee to confer with the Railway Company on the details of the plan. Mr J. Chapman, Mr Kite (surveyors of roads), Mr G. Chambers, Mr T. Acres, Mr Ginn, Mr C. Chapman, Mr Waller. This motion was also carried. C. Puller, Chairman. Present: John Acres, Jas. At a Vestry held at Standon Church on Friday the 28th day of October 1864 and adjourned to the Windmill Inn, a Poor Rate of one shilling in the pound was proposed and agreed to the following persons present Charles Puller, Chairman, Geo. Chambers Jnr, Chas. Chapman, A. J. Waller, J. B. Smith, James Whitaker, Tho. N. Burr. At a Vestry held the same day of which due notice was given a Church Rate of 5d in the pound was agreed to for the purpose of paying off the first instalment (80 pounds) of the loan raised for the restoration of the church together with interest at four per cent per annum. 1865 Mar 27 At a Vestry meeting held at Standon Church on the 27th day of March 1865 one notice of which was given the following persons have been chosen as assessors of the Land Tax. James Judd, collector, Thos. Ginn, Chas. Chapman, John Acres, Geo. Chambers, J. B. Smith.

1865 Apr 18 At a vestry holden at the Parish Church on the 18th day of April 1865 of which due notice had been given the following persons were proposed and elected to act as churchwardens. Mr Geo. Chambers of Standon Friars proposed by the Vicar and seconded by Mr Burr and Mr John Acres of Mentley proposed by Mr Burr and seconded by Mr William Whitaker. C. Puller, Chairman.

1865 Nov 16 At a Vestry held at Standon Church on Thursday the 16th day of November 1865 a rate of 4d in the pound was made to pay off the second instalment of the loan of 800 pounds borrowed for the restoration of the Church with interest at the rate of 4 prct p annum. 1866 Feb 23 At a vestry held at Standon Church - adjourned to the Windmill Inn on Friday the 23rd day of February 1866 due notice of which was given, the question was put whether the Parish should review the offer of 250 pounds to Railway Co. to assist in building a bridge over the river at the Paper Mill as proposed and carried on the 15th July 1864. A show of hands was taken with the following result: For the motion: Thos. N. Burr, Geo. Chambers Jnr, J. B. Smith, Thos. Chapman, A. Waller, Chas. Chapman, Thos. Ginn Against the motion: Geo. Underwood, Geo. King, Wm. Patten (surveyor) M. D. Fleming, Wm. Acres, Thos. Johnson Thomas Ginn, Chairman.

1866 Mar 26 At a Vestry meeting held at Standon Church on the 26th day of March 1866 due notice of which was given the following persons have been chosen assessors of Land Tax. Jas. Judd, collector, Thos. Ginn, Chas. Chapman, J. Acres, Geo. Chambers, J. B. Smith.

1866 Apr 6 At a Vestry holden at the Parish Church on the sixth day of April 1866 of which due notice had been given, the following persons were proposed and elected to act as Churchwardens for the ensuing year viz: Mr George Chambers Jnr of Standon Friars proposed by the Vicar and seconded by Mr Waller and Mr John Acres of Mentley proposed by Mr Burr and seconded by Mr James Whitaker. C. Puller, Chairman. It was agreed... that an urgent necessity exists for the repair of the Churchyard wall facing the street, the repainting of the iron gates, and the renewal of the clock face. C. 1866 May 4 [Balance sheet of Parish]... The above balance of 51 pounds 10s 8d is this day at a Vestry held by notice duly given handed over to Thos. N. Burr assistant overseer. Thos. N. Burr, Geo. Chambers Jnr, Thomas Ginn, J. B. Smith, James Judd, James Whitaker, George Underwood, George Cottam.

1868 May 29 At a Vestry held at the Parish Church on Friday the twenty ninth day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight it was proposed by Mr Jas. Chapman and seconded by Mr J. B. 1868 Oct 11 Churchyard Headstone Inscription (barely legible) reads:
George Chambers of Standon Friars died October 11th 1868 aged 38 years. On his grave is a full-length vault/coffin-type monument with a wrought iron railing around it.
1869 Mar 25 At a vestry meeting held at the Parish Church on Thursday the 25th day of March 1869 (of which due notice had been given) the account of the receipts and payments connected with the Bell recently put up in the Church Tower was presented and it was thereupon proposed by the Rev. C. E. Titterton seconded by Mr Charles Chapman and resolved "That the said accounts be inserted in the Parish Ledger and that the tanks of this Vestry be given to Mr E. J. M. Richardson for his kindness in collecting the subscriptions and superintending the arrangements." It was also resolved "That a copy of the above resolution signed by the Chairman be forwarded to Mr Richardson." C. E. Titterton (Chairman) Subscribers names...
