Daily News 19 Apr 1886 Birth April 11, at Richmond-villas, Eglantine-road, East-hill, Wandsworth, the wife of W. S. Penley, Esq., of a daughter.
The Ipswich Journal 14 Apr 1888 The Late Mr Allen White, RN On Thursday the mortal remains of the late Cecil Hugh Allen White, R.N., were committed to their last resting place in Weybread churchyard, with a most imposing ceremony. Deceased was the youngest son of the Rev. J. H. White (vicar), and was midshipman on board H.M.S. Rover, in which he had just returned from the West Indies. He was brought home from Chatham (convalescent as was supposed) on the 3rd inst., but worse symptoms soon evinced themselves, and he passed prematurely away in the bloom and high promise of his youth on the 8th inst. The sudden termination of a life so full of promise was a great blow to a wide circle of friends. A great number of sympathetic letters and tokens were received, and among them one each from the juniors and seniors of Weybread Church choir, accompanying floral tributes. Numerous other wreaths were received, and among them were a most magnificent one bearing the inscription in gold letters "With Capt. Noel's and Officers of H.M.S. Rover's deepest sympathy." There were others from Misses E. and M. Fairbrother (Syleham Hall), Mr and Mrs Claude Penley and Misses Violet and Blanche Penley (London), Rev. A. H. Brereton and Miss Brereton (Mendham), Miss Stote Donnison (Dove House, Mendham), Dr and Mrs Raven (Fressingfield), Miss Raven, Mrs Graham Hanmer and Miss Alice Hanmer, Mrs Fairbrother (Blackheath Park), the Misses Blewitt (Waveney House, Weybread), Mr Lynch and family, Miss Harrison, Mr Charles Candler (Harleston), Mrs Saunders and family (Weybread), and from Mr G. A. Lynch (Colchester). The coffin, of excellent workmanship and choice design, made by Messrs Grimwood and Bullen, was borne by Messrs A. Bales, T. Pettit, Alfred Girling, W. Gostling and G. Copping. The service in the church was conducted by the Rev. Canon Raven, D.D. (Fressingfield), and the Rev. W. O. Tancock (Norwich Grammar School). The chief mourners were - Mr and Mrs White, Miss White, and Master White, Miss Penley and Mr Penley, Mr H. White, and Mr Rowley (of H.M.S. Rover, companion of deceased), and the entire complement of servants. Among the general mourners were - The Rev. J. H. and Mrs Raven, Capt. and Mrs Hanmer and family, Rev.- Fellowes (Pulham Market), Rev.- Brereton (Mendham), Rev.- Cleaver (Pulham Mory?), Rev.- Gausson (Thorpe Abbotts), Rev. E. C. Hopper (Starston), Miss Blewitt (Waveney House), Dr Anderson (Fressingfield), Messrs G. O. Lyus, F. A. Crisp, - Youngman, H. Hazard (Harleston), Mr and Miss Bryant, Mr C. Candler, Mr and Mrs Broome, Mr Saunders and family, Mr Whatling, Mr and Mrs Broughton and family, Mrs Clifton, Mr and Mrs Gardiner, Miss Gardiner, Miss Phillbrick, Messrs Garrod, Grimwood, Bullen and Buck (Weybread), and most of the villagers.
