Charles Lesingham Smith, Rector of Little Canfield, Essex, who died on February 24 last, was proved on the 20th ult., by Charles Lesingham Maynard Iredell, the nephew, and Miss Eliza Ann Iredell, the niece, the executors, the personal estate being sworn under 16,000. Among other bequests, the testator bequeaths his mathematical books, books relating to classical literature and divinity, his printed portraits of mathematicians and the marble bust of himself done by Hiram Powers at Florence, to the Master and Fellows of Christs College, Cambridge; and to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, the portrait of the Rev. Mr Staismore, Vicar of Edmonton by Samuel Cooper, dated 1657, and any other portraits the trustees of the said museum like to have. The residuary legatees are his neices, the said Miss Iredell, Miss Sophia Mary Iredell, and Mrs Emma Edmonds. Illustrated London News.

The Times 26 Nov 1908 p13 Obituary Colonel James Shrubb Iredell, Bombay Staff Corps, whose death is announced as having taken place at Heathcot, Tavistock-road, Croyden, on the 23rd inst., at the age of 70, was gazetted to the Indian Army in December, 1856. He took part in the operations at the time of the Mutiny in 1857-8, serving at Shorepore and Nurgoond, and against the Dessaies in the Sawount-Waree district. In 1868 he was promoted to Captain and in 1876 to Major, and in the Afghan war of 1879-80 he took part in the action at Ghirisk and was severely wounded at the battle of Maiwand. For his services he was mentioned in despatches and received the medal. In December, 1882, he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel, and in October, 1886 retired with the honorary rank of Colonel.

The Times 12 Nov 1924 p9 Obituary Lieutenant-General Francis Shrubb Iredell, a veteran of the Indian Mutiny, died at Preston, Brighton, on Monday night, at the age of 87. The son of Lieutenant Colonel F. M. Iredell, he was sent to Cheltenham College, and was commissioned in the Bombay Infantry when he was 17, and was promoted to lieutenant in 1856. He served in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1857-8. His next service was in Kathiawar, in 1860-61. He was promoted to full colonel in February, 1880, and served in the Afghan War, taking part in the march from Quetta to the relief of Kandahar, and in the affair at the Kojak Pass. He was afterwards in command of the Chaman garrison, and commanded a field force in the Argandah Valley. For these services he was mentioned in dispatches. His promotion to major-general was dated June, 1889, and he was placed on the unemployed supernumerary list of the Indian Army in 1891, being promoted to lieutenant-general in 1893. Ten years later he was gazetted hon. colonel of the 114th Mahrattas. General Iredell married in 1867 Katharine Helen, daughter of John Green, of Dublin, and granddaughter of the Hon. Edward Massy, of Chester and of Ballynort, County Limerick, and had one son and two daughters.
