New Zealand Fires 1876-1892
From the Australasian Insurance and Banking Record. Fires are 
listed monthly in date order from 1877 until well into the 20th 
century for New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands. 

A complete collection of this publication is  held at Victoria 
University, Wellington. The headings used are: Date, Name, 
Locality, Occupation, Insurance Company and Amount Insured, 
Probable Loss and Remarks. Although many of the placenames no 
longer exist they can be found in the Wises Post Office Directory 
for the relevant year.

This work began with a wish expressed by Dr Rollo ARNOLD for 
indexed access to these lists and this information is made 
available in honour of his very significant contribution to NZ 
History over many years.

His excellent work "New Zealand's Burning: The Settler's World
in the Mid 1880s" is only one of his highly commended works.
