Palmerston North: The most severe earthquake experienced
here for some years was felt at 3.45 o'clock this morning.
There were two shocks, the first of five seconds, and the
second of eight seconds in duration. The shake was travelling
from south-west to north-east. No damage was reported, though
the shake considerably alarmed nervous people.
Christchurch: A shock of earthquake was felt at an early hour
this morning. There was more of a swaying motion than the
usual jerk, but the shock was not severe enough to cause any
damage.
Masterton: It was more severe in some of the country districts,
where two distint shocks were felt. No damage was done.
