Earthquake.

Greymouth, Mar 15. There was a very sharp shock of earthquake
on Saturday night at about 11.30, lasting about 12 seconds. The
direction of the wave was easterly and westerly, preceded by a
rumbling noise, and was felt by a large majority of people here.

Westport, Mar 16. A severe shock of earthquake was felt here
at 11.30 on Saturday night. The motion was from west to east
and lasted about 30 seconds.
