The Times 9 Jun 1819 p3 Deaths On the 6th inst, at his nephew's house, Apollo-buildings, Walworth, Thomas Drake, Esq., of Ashday-hall, near Halifax, Yorkshire, in the 77th year of his age.
Monumental Inscriptions Old Churchyard of St Mary Newington, Southwark Page 69 DRAKE 183. Here lieth | interred the body of | Mrs Mary DRAKE wife of | Thomas DRAKE Esqr of this Parish | who departed this life the 14th day | of April 1799 aged 54 years | also the above named Thomas DRAKE | formerly of this Parish but late | of Ashday in the Parish of Halifax in | the County of Yorks who departed | this life the 6th day of June 1819 | aged 76 years. Thomas Drake, of Ashday Hall, Southowram, Halifax, in his will dated 13th August 1818 and proved in London 18th June 1819 desires to be buried near his father and mother, at Ealand. He mentions: "My nephew, Thomas Drake, son of my brother, Joseph Drake - my Goddaughter, Frances (a minor), daughter of my said nephew Thomas - my brother, John Drake - Dinah, wife of my said brother Joseph - Sarah, wife of my said nephew Thomas - my Goddaughter, Ann Waterhouse," all living at the date of the will. He makes his nephew, Thomas Drake, executor.
PCC Will This is the last Will and Testament of Thomas Drake of Ashday in the Township of Southowram and parish of Halifax in the County of York. In the first place I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping for a remission of my Sins through the merits and mediation of my dear Redeemer Jesus Christ my body I commit to the Earth and desire to be put in an Elm Coffin and interred in Ealand Church in the County of York as near to the Remains of my dear father and mother as ... may be and at as little expense as possible. I desire that all my debts and funeral expences be in the first place only paid and satisfied and as to my worldly Estate wherewith it ... pleased God to bless me I dispose thereof as follows I give and devise all my freehold and real estates situate at Ashday in Southowram aforesaid and at Brighouse in the said County of York and elsewhere with all Messuages Houses Cottages Buildings Lands Tenaments and Hereditaments thereunto belonging and appertaining unto my nephew Thomas Drake son of my brother Joseph Drake who resided with me many years and is now in the office of John Campbell Esquire one of the Masters of the High Court of Chancery as his Chief Clerk to hold the said freehold and real estates messuages cottages buildings lands tenaments and hereditaments unto and to the use of my said nephew Thomas Drake his heirs and assigns for ever. I give and bequeath unto my said nephew Thomas Drake all my household goods and furniture paintings prints framed and ... together with my collection of Natural History as Birds Animals and other things and also my Books of Natural History to hold the same unto my said nephew Thomas Drake absolutely for his own use. I also give and bequeath unto my said nephew Thomas Drake not otherwise disposed of all my Silver plate Gold and other ... Gold Chains ... and every thing belonging thereto together with my Diamond and other Rings for his own use and disposal I also give and bequeath unto my said nephew Thomas Drake all the wine and other liquors and all stores for housekeeping Bed and Table Linen that shall be in my house at ... at the time of my decease for his own use without ... any amount thereof I also give and bequeath unto my said nephew Thomas Drake all my Library of Books both printed and manuscript with the Book Cases and all my wearing apparel both Linen and Woollen and also all my fire arms and swords for his own use and disposal I also give and bequeath unto my said nephew Thomas Drake and horse or horses I may have at my decease with the farming stock and implements of husbandry that may belong to me I give and bequeath unto my God Daughter Frances Drake daughter of my said nephew Thomas Drake the sum of five hundred pounds to be paid her at the age of twenty one years or day of marriage which shall first happen provided she marries with the consent of her father and mother or the survivor of them but I desire the same may be settled upon her and her children exclusive of any husband she may marry I give and bequeath unto my said God-daughter Frances Drake my Gold repeating watch and one of the Gold Chains and seals that her father shall think proper I give and bequeath unto my said nephew Thomas Drake the nominal Capital sum of one thousand pounds Bank three per cent consolidated annuities standing in my name in the Books of ... Bank of England in trust to pay the interest and dividends thereof as the same shall come due and be received unto my Brother Joseph Drake for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease in case his wife shall survive him to pay the interest and dividends of the said one thousand pounds Bank Annuities as the same shall become deceased be received unto Dinah the wife of my said Brother Joseph Drake for and during the term of her natural life and after the decease of the survivor of them my said Brother Joseph Drake and Dinah his wife the said principal sum of one thousand pounds Bank Annuities to fall into and become the residue of my personal estate and belong to the person who whom I have given devised and bequeathed such residue as hereinafter mentioned I also give and bequeathed unto my said nephew Thomas Drake the like nominal capital sum of one thousand pounds bank annuities also standing in my own name in trust to pay the interest and dividends thereof as the same shall ... out and be received unto my Brother John Drake for and during the term of his natural life and after the decease of my said Brother John Drake the said last mentioned principal sum of one thousand pounds Bank Annuities to fall into and become the residue of my personal Estate and belong to the person to whom I have given devised and bequeathed such residue as hereinafter mentioned I give and bequeath unto my God-daughter Ann Waterhouse one hundred pounds as a token of my respect for her and I direct the same to be paid into her own hands at the time of her marriage in case she marrys after my decease but in case she marrys in my life time then I direct the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid into her own hands within one month after my decease and the same not to be subject to the control ... or engagements of her husband I give and bequeath unto my niece Susannah Drake daughter of my said Brother Joseph Drake who has had the care of my house at Ashday for some time the sum of one hundred pounds as a token of my gratitude for such care and attention to be paid unto her within one month after my decease I give and bequeath unto my niece Sarah Drake the wife my said nephew Thomas Drake who resided with me at Walworth many years the sum of one hundred pounds as a token of acknowledgement for her care and attention to me and my family and I desire the same may be paid to her within one month after my decease I give and bequeath unto my said Brothers Joseph Drake and John Drake ten pounds apiece towards putting themselves into mourning. All the rest residue and remainder of my Real and Personal Estates Goods and Chattels whatsoever wheresoever and of what nature kind quality ...
