Australasian Ships - "ANZSHIPS"

Compiled by the Genealogical Computer Group of  the NZ  Society  of 
Genealogists using an Amstrad PC 1640 with 32Megabyte hard disk.

A list of ships and craft that served in Australia and New Zealand 
waters over the years.   The data is held in a series of files named 
ANZ1, ANZ2, etc & contain details of 783 ships. 

Records have been  sorted into alphabetical order by ship name and 
within each ship name  by  year of construction or event. No
attempt  has  been made to eliminate duplicate entries nor to resolve 
any errors in spellings etc etc. At this time the data should be 
treated  as completely random and not comprehensive at all. No 
apologies are made for ommissions or for any errors.

2. WRECK BOOK -  "The Wreck Book" by Steve Locker-Lampson & Ian
                 Francis   Published  1979.

3. NORTH      - "Servants of the North" - the story of the Northern
                Steamships Co,  by Cliff Furniss - pub 1977.

4. WAITEMATA  - "Steam on the Waitemata" by W.W.Stewart,  pub. 1972.

5. MOORE      - "Captain F.G.Moore - Mariner & Pioneer" by John
                O. Ross - published 1982.

6. NZ WRECKS  - "New Zealand Shipwrecks 1795-1970" by CWN Ingram.
                4th Edition published 1972.
                (up to and including February 1877 only)

7. TAIRUA     - "Tairua" by Francis Bennett. Published 1986.

8  ARGOSY     - "Argosy of Sail" by Clifford Hawkins 1980.
                (These are references to photographs of ships).

9. MITCALFE   - "Gulf" by Barry Mitcalfe pub. Coromandel Press.

10. PHANTOM   - "The Phantom Fleet" by Ted Ashby published 1975

The following abbreviations that appear on the disk may need some
explanation;-

   a) NSSCo.        -      The Northern Steamship Company
   b) DSF           -      Devonport Steam Ferry Company.
   c) ANSSFCo.      -      Auckland & North Shore Steam Ferry Co.
   d) AUSN          -      Australian Steam Navigation Co.
   e) USSCo         -      The Union Steamship Co.
   f) NZ Co         -      The New Zealand Company.
