Eric Anderton

Eric Sidney Anderton, born 20-June-1914 in Waihi East

Married Catherine McNamara on 20-Dec-1938.  Eric and Cath had 3 daughters plus an adopted son:

• Moreen (different spelling according to Emily)
• Raewyn
• Carol
• Peter (adopted).

Eric died in Brisbane (around 2000) - he had moved there late in life to be near his daughters and their families.

"My name is Eric Sidney Anderton. I am the eldest son of Archibald Anderton, who was the tenth of Edward Joseph Anderton of Middlesex, England. 

"My wife CATHERINE McNAMARA also came to New Zealand (as a babe in arms) with her mother and one older sister on the S.S. IONIC in 1914 and just after the Great War broke out. Their ship was scheduled to call at Ports in South Africa where her mother was to have met up with her sister, but missed out because at that time there was a U-Boat scare – so it was decided that for the safety of the Women and children on board, the ship was diverted direct through Suez, direct to Wellington, New Zealand.

"They united with her father who was already settled in Masterton. She later moved to Auckland, where we met and married."
