Current Situation

The Baron has not married. Currently the heir is his brother, Pharos.

The domain is still suffering from the recent crop-blight. Several hamlets have been abandoned, the peasants settling in or near Aghaba. The town is rather full and crime is rather more common than previously.

Geography

The domain centres around the river. They are on a flood plain. The river floods most springs, and for this reason the majority of villages are on raised ground near the river.

Features of Note

Blackrock: A small town on the southern borders, home to the family of medusae that traditionally advise the Barons of Lodinag. Their reputation generally protects the town from the depredations of local bandits (some say this is because they traffic with the bandits for poisons).

The Poacher & Swan: Premier inn in Aghaba. This is not much of a recommendation. For the right price, a visitor may have a swan and eel pie, their specialty (for commoners to kill one of the Baron's swans is a capital crime).

Religion

The domain has a temple to the River-lady (a local aspect of the Lady of Spring). This is a popular cult in the region, but fairly localised.

The cult is associated with a flower local to the region, the Aghaba Rose. The flower is believed to be an aphrodisiac and beneficial for soil.

History

1447-1449: Spring floods have been worse than usual and combined with a blight on the main crops of the domain (wheat, rye, barley). There have been a few dozen deaths from starvation. Possibly more significantly, many of the peasants moved to town to receive the Baron's food handouts, and a number have remained there. The blights have reduced income to the domain as well.

The current Baron's grandfather married a human woman, the daughter of a rich Baron in the domain of Ducaine. This barony is in central Urgamand and the connection has given Lodinag significantly more political respect.
