How it went
Fri 5th Nov: Final setting up and preparation. 5-8pm. Late enrolments in the school hall brought the total to nearly 600.
Leila Reece (Mrs Buchanan) popped in for a chat during the day to see how everything was going.
Sat 6th Nov: 11-15am. Groups assembled in Auburn St then walked into school grounds through the Memorial Gates in Anzac St.
For the "oldies" there was no penny trail to contribute to. (No more pennies I believe!)
11.30am The North Shore City Mayor, the sitting MP, and Margaret Harris (Principal) each gave a speech
followed by a brief word from ex pupil Tom Cassidy. The School Culture Club gave a lovely performance.
12-noon. The Sausage sizzle was very popular and most welcome, as were the Devonshire Teas.
The school hall had a wonderful display of photographs and much time was spent there catching up with
old classmates and friends. Outside, the shaded areas were popular and widely used also for this purpose.
Excitement built up as the group photos were organised which made it easier to catch up with ex pupils from a
similar era.
The classrooms were open with more photo displays available, and out in the playground the youngsters were
enjoying themselves with folk dancing such as Maypole and Follow Me.
4-4.30pm. Daytime events reluctantly concluded.
Saturday evening: 6-30pm. Doors opened for Mix and Mingle. There was plenty of that going on as more
faces were recognised and greeted with exclamations and shouts of excited surprise.
The Bar opened and the seating under the trees gave a most relaxed atmosphere for some friendly chat.
Finger food was served at 7pm in the hall which brought everyone inside again to reminisce some more.
Closed at around 9.30pm, though I suspect it was much later
Sun 7th Nov: 10am Church service held at St Georges Presbyterian. 2 The Terrace. Takapuna.
