Progress

The shell (inside, 14/05/00)

It's been hard to see much progress recently, but we managed to sneak in and had a look around. This montage shows most of level 1: the entry is on the far left, followed by Kirsten's room (first window), the study (second window) and the living area on the right.

The shell (inside, looking north, 14/05/00) Jane stands in what will become the dining area, looking out the window down Jervois Quay. The diagonal steel beams will form the wall between the study and living area.

Note the pile of lumber on the right: this is where the living area and kitchen will be. Behind this are two windows on the northeast wall: the deck and playroom will go above these.

The shell (inside, looking south, 14/05/00)This view looks back towards the entry door. The piles of wood in the middle are where the study and Kirsten's room will be: above this are the structural beams that will support level 2, in particular the main bedroom.

On the far left is another pile. This will eventually become the den, downstairs bathroom and storage room.

Progress has been slower than expected, largely due to difficulties in co-ordinating the developers with our builders and contractors. The timeline has been updated accordingly, but this is still very, very tentative.

The shell (inside, 24/02/00)

We have a floor! For the first time since construction started, we've been able to take photos inside, and here we see the entire space that will become our apartment. The wooden planks on the floor outline the divisions between apartments, and the mezzanine floor will be constructed just below the level of the girders.

Note that the windows currently extend right down to floor level: these will be partially blocked in so that they begin at about a metre above the floor. Just to the right of the ladder you can see one of the builders working on knocking the window for Kirsten's bedroom out of the wall.

First look at our floor (outside, south, 24/02/00)

The beginnings of a floor: the steel girders that are just visible through the blue cladding will form the structure of our main floor. This will eventually be covered with concrete to create the brand new level 3 of the building (level 1 of our apartment).

The other main sign of progress is that most of the old windows and window surrounds have now been removed. Eventually, they'll be replaced by new aluminium window frames to match the new floors of the building.
