Overview

This picture shows the Vicino building, with the approximate location of our home-to-be highlighted in red. The yellowish facade in front is Stage 1 of the Vicino development, which is already inhabited.

Ours is one of four penthouse apartments, each of which consists of one and a half floors. To give an idea of scale, the lower floor of our place will be about 95m², and the mezzanine floor will be about half this. The slope of the roof means that a dormer will be required for the main bedroom upstairs, otherwise the development stays pretty much within the existing envelope.

Plans and sections

The architect's drawings have just been given building consent. They are unlikely to change in any major way, but small details may evolve over time. In fact, we've just been able to add a new room: a spa room next to the main bedroom.

Interior design

While we've settled on the overall style (just your standard minimalist apartment look, with touches of Japanese, Scandinavian modernism and gentleman's club), the fine touches are still subject to some (ahem) debate. Check the interior design page for all the gory details.
