--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to Get There : Ride up Wright's Hill Rd in Karori (off Campbell St, off Karori Rd.) Just as you reach the top you will see a carpark to the right. At the west end of the carpark there is a gap in the fence with a "Deliverance Mountain Bike Track" sign in front of it. Deliverance starts to the left of the sign.

Jono takes on the shute

The Track : Goes along a ridge between gorse for 40 metres. It then makes a sharp 180 turn to the right and plunges over a dropoff into the bush. The track zig-zags through supplejack vines and over roots before entering a stream bed with a trickle of water down the middle. This section gives some primo technical riding experience threading between and over wet roots, dropoffs, and head sized rocks. As the stream goes from a trickle to a proper stream the track crosses the stream a couple of times finally ending up on true left. The track keeps on the true left of the stream for around 900 metres along some railing benched sections like "Tom's Deviation", "Don's Devestation" and "Jono's Folly". Sections of track around here can be very narrow, mind that front wheel. Just as you are being lulled into a false sense of security the track turns sharply to the right and plummets down "The Shute" to the stream. Warning, at the bottom of the shute you have to make a sharp left hand turn, this section has been rigorously tested (wins most frequent black spot award.) We'll probably build an easier option for people who don't like arsing off into vines. The track now follows the valley floor with various river crossings to test you. 300 metres from The Shute check out the abandoned hillbilly gold miners shack, take some photos. From there on it's pretty flat with some little technical bits to keep you alert. About 400 metres from the shack the track turns sharply uphill (only steep uphill in the whole track) and climbs out of the valley to the carpark. With one last drop off right at the end. Enjoy!

Where You Come Out : A carpark at the end of Fitzgerald ave, off Hazelwood ave in South Karori. To ride to the Makara Peak MTB Park ride down Fitzgerald, turn left onto Hazelwood, down Hazelwood to South Karori Rd, and then right.

Deliverance is under constant construction and tuning, if you wish to help call in at Mud Cycles on the way out.
