ST FRANCIS DE SALES CATHOLIC PARISH, ISLAND BAY WELLINGTON

ANNUAL PASTORAL REPORT

1 APRIL 2008 – 31 MARCH 2009

Prepared by the Parish Pastoral Council: Father Geoff Broad, Joshy Chirayath, Vince Costa, Linda De Gregorio, Patrick Holden, Denise Kerr, Geoff O’Malley, David Ryrie, Simon Shone and Jennifer Bosch (Chair)

Loving God, we thank you for our parish of St Francis de Sales.

We ask you to help us to be:

  • a community of Your disciples;

  • a community that meets regularly and joyfully to draw near to You;

  • a community that responds with prayer and action to the needs of its members and of others; and

  • a community that warmly welcomes new members and willingly shares our Catholic faith with others.

Amen.

LITURGY

One of the biggest achievements has been the success of our Sacramental program. Run by Linda Amitrano and Elizabeth Berry the program has been restructured and geared more towards the children's level of understanding.

All masses continue to run smoothly capably handled by the liturgy committee and Easter and Christmas masses were considered successes this year as usual.

WELLINGTON SOUTH PASTORAL AREA

Our pastoral area is running well with the Pastoral Area Council meeting 3 times a year. The council is still young and finding its feet with no major issues to worry about they are focussing on creating a new community spirit between our parishes.

ST FRANCIS DE SALES SCHOOL

This year the school moved its annual fair to Sunday the 15th of March and it was agreed by all that this was a sensible move and a good way to further parish and school links.

Our monthly school masses are also increasing in popularity thanks to the hard work of DRS Denise Kerr.

Any other ways for furthering school links would be greatly appreciated and can be directed to the PPC.

WORLD YOUTH DAY

Our two candidates Patrick Holden and Simon Shone attended World Youth Day 2008. Both had a fabulous and spiritual time and have shared their experiences with the parish in various ways over the last year. We can now look ahead to WYD 2012 in Madrid.

THANKS TO FATHER GEOFF

Once again the council wishes to thank Father Geoff for all the time and effort he puts into our parish. His support, trust and confidence are greatly appreciated by all.
