onathan Thompson was born about 1768 and married Mary Sowerby on 9 November 1790 at St Michael & All Angels, Addingham, Cumberland.

 

Jonathan (also known as John) and Mary lived in Penrith, Cumberland and were the parents of:

 

·               Jonathan Thompson christened 10 November 1793 at St Andrew’s, Penrith married Mary Parker on 27 February 1814 at St Andrew’s, Penrith. Jonathan and Mary were the parents of:

 

·         William Thompson born Dockray, Penrith and christened at St Andrew’s, Penrith on 19 May 1815; and

 

·         Jane Thompson born Dockray, Penrith and christened at St Andrew’s, Penrith on 14 February 1819 died in Dockray and was buried at St Andrew’s, Penrith on 20 February 1820 aged 1 year.

 

Jonathan Thompson died in Dockray, Penrith and was buried 29 May 1833 at St Andrew’s, Penrith, aged 39 years;

 

·               Thomas Thompson christened 11 August 1795 at St Andrew’s, Penrith;

 

·               Jane Thompson christened 26 April 1798 at St Andrew’s, Penrith married James Shufflebotham on 16 October 1827 at Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire (more details below);

 

·               Mary Thompson christened 22 May 1801 at St Andrew’s, Penrith;

 

·               Ann Thompson christened 15 May 1803 at St Andrew’s, Penrith;

 

·               Elizabeth Thompson christened 19 December 1805 at St Andrew’s, Penrith married Andrew Anderson Innes about 1833. Elizabeth and Andrew were the parents of:

 

·         Mary Innes christened 2 March 1834 at St Andrew’s, Penrith married Timothy Sarginson in 1859 in Penrith. Mary and Timothy, a tailor, were the parents of:

 

·         William Simpson Sarginson born 1860 in Penrith;

·         Elizabeth Sarginson born 1863 in Penrith;

·         Tom Sarginson born 1869 in Penrith; and

·         James Sarginson born 1873 in Penrith.

 

Timothy Sarginson died in Penrith in 1895 aged 74 years. Mary Sarginson nee Innes died in Penrith in 1919 aged 86 years.

 

·               Isabella Thompson christened 25 October 1810 at St Andrew’s, Penrith.

 

Nothing more is known about Jonathan Thompson and Mary Thompson nee Sowerby at this time.

ane Thompson was born in Penrith, Cumberland, England and christened on 26 April 1798 at St Andrew’s, Penrith, the daughter of Jonathan Thompson and Mary Sowerby.

 

Jane married James Shufflebotham on 16 October 1827 at Manchester Cathedral, Lancashire.

 

Jane and James, a gentleman’s servant, were the parents of:

 

·               Margaret Shufflebotham born in Penrith and christened 8 February 1829 at St Andrew’s, Penrith married Joseph Dalton on 12 December 1852 at St Andrew’s, Penrith (for more information on the descendants of Margaret Shufflebotham and Joseph Dalton, please see our Dalton family tree); and

 

·               Thomas Thompson Shufflebotham christened 12 September 1830 at the Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire.

 

Jane Shufflebotham nee Thompson died in Netherend, Penrith and was buried at St Andrew’s, Penrith on 6 August 1836, aged 38 years.
