Joseph, a farmer, and Mary were the parents of: · John Rutter born West Matfen and christened 22 April 1766 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham married Ann Rutter on 28 March 1807 at St John of Beverley, Acomb; · Mabel Rutter born West Matfen and christened 19 July 1767 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham married Cuthbert Lamb on 1 May 1788 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham; · Elizabeth Rutter born West Matfen and christened 11 December 1768 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham and about whom nothing more is known; · Ann Rutter born West Matfen and christened 21 June 1772 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham married Jacob Bell on 28 April 1800 at St John of Beverley, Acomb (more details below); · Margaret Rutter born West Matfen and christened 10 April 1774 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham died in West Matfen and was buried on 24 April 1777 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham; · Matthew Rutter born at the Cock Inn, West Matfen and christened 28 April 1776 at St Andrew’s, Hexham died at West Matfen and was buried on 19 June 1776 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham; · Matthew Rutter born at the Cock Inn and christened 20 July 1777 at St Andrew’s, Hexham married Elizabeth Nixon on 20 May 1805 at St John of Beverley, Acomb; · Margaret Rutter born about 1778/79 died of small pox on 17 December 1797 at Kirkheaton Farm and was buried on 20 December 1797 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham, aged 19 years; · Sarah Rutter born Ingoe Mill and christened 8 July 1781 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham died of small pox on 21 December 1797 at Kirkheaton Farm and was buried on 23 December 1797 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham, aged 17 years; · Mary Rutter born Ingoe Mill and christened 22 December 1782 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham married (1) William Stokoe on 26 April 1804 at St John of Beverley, Acomb and (2) Bartholomew Dobison on 9 March 1811 at St John of Beverley, Acomb; Updated! New Link! and · Adah Rutter born Ingoe Mill and christened 6 August 1786 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham married John Maughan on 17 November 1810 at St Cuthbert’s, Bellingham. Mary Rutter nee Brown died in Bellingham on 23 June 1811 and was buried at St Mary’s, Stamfordham on 26 June 1811, aged 70 years. Joseph Rutter died at Fern Hill Farm in the parish of Acomb and was buried at St Mary’s, Stamfordham on 4 March 1825, aged 85 years. --- Note: Although
a christening has still to be found for Joseph, given the names of his
children, it is likely that he was the son of John Rutter and Ann
Dunn who married on 4 June 1738 at St Mary’s, Stamfordham. John Rutter
was the son of Matthew Rutter and Mabel Hunter who married at
St Mary’s, Ovingham on 20 November 1690. [Any information to prove this
