dward Rutter was born in Woodside in the parish of Ryton, Co. Durham, England and christened on 12 January 1735 at Ryton Holy Cross, the fourth child of Edward Rutter and Ann Roseby.
Edward married Isabella Chance (born in Woodside and christened 23 October 1743 at Ryton Holy Cross, the daughter of John Chance and Ann Dixon) on 20 April 1767 at Ryton Holy Cross.
Edward and Isabella moved to Newburn across the River Tyne from Ryton after the birth of their first son Edward (with a brief return to County Durham about 1773/4 for the birth of son Peter) then moved to the parish of Gosforth, Northumberland prior to the birth of their youngest son Joshua.
Edward, a pitman, and Isabella were the parents of:
· Edward Rutter born in Ryton Woodside, Durham and christened 25 October 1767 at Ryton Holy Cross died at Gosforth, Northumberland and was buried at St Michael’s, Newburn on 16 August 1791;
· John Rutter born in Newburn and christened 2 July 1769 at St Michael’s, Newburn married Margaret Laing at St Michael’s, Newburn on 24 October 1791; · Ann Rutter born in Newburn and christened 19 July 1772 at St Michael’s, Newburn; · Peter Rutter born in White Cake Row, Durham and christened 19 June 1774 at Chester Le Street, Durham married Mary Robson on 25 April 1796 at St Nicholas, Gosforth (please click on Peter’s name for more information); · Thomas Rutter born in Newburn and christened 13 April 1777 at St Michael’s, Newburn married his first wife Jane Baker on 13 December 1808 at St Nicholas, Durham, Co. oshua Rutter was born in Gosforth, Northumberland, England on 5 September 1785 and christened 9 October 1785 at St Michael’s & All Angels, Newburn, the youngest son of Edward Rutter and Isabella Chance.
Joshua married Jane Jobling (born 25 April 1786 in Gateshead, Co. Durham, the daughter of George Jobling and Mary Hopper) on 16 July 1808 at St Michael’s, Newburn.
Joshua, a coal miner, and Jane were the parents of:

George married Mary Hepple (born 4 July 1819 in Blaydon, Co. Durham, the daughter of George Hepple and Mary Collins) in 1850 at St John the Baptist, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
George and Mary were the parents of:
· George Hepple Rutter born in Blaydon, Co. Durham on 8 April 1850 died in Blaydon on 27 May 1850;
· Isabella Rutter born 8 July 1851 in Blaydon Haugh, Co Durham and christened at St Cuthbert’s, Stella on 29 August 1851 married Terrence Carr about 1871; and
· Sarah Ann Rutter born in Newburn on 21 December 1855 married William Maddison in 1882 at St Andrew’s, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Mary Rutter nee Hepple died at Throckley Pit on 3 August 1896 and was buried at St Michael’s, Newburn on 6 August 1896, aged 77 years.
