homas Rogerson was born about 1783 in Bewick Folly near Eglingham, Northumberland, England, possibly the son of George Rogerson and Isabella Turnbull who married at St Maurice, Eglingham on 11 June 1767 although no christening has as yet been found.

Thomas may have been married twice. Thomas and Elizabeth ? were living in Wooler prior to moving to Horncastle, Kirkwhelpington and further information can be found here.

Thomas married Jane Telfer (born 16 September 1803 at Cockleywalls, Thockrington, daughter of John Telfer) on 3 August 1822 at St Bartholomew’s, Kirkwhelpington:

Thomas Rogerson and Jane Telford both of this parish

were married in this Church by Banns with consent of parents

this third day of August in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty two

By me John Postlethwaite Curate

This marriage was solemnized between us

Thomas Rogerson, Jane Telford her mark

In the presence of John Telford, Andrew Davison

Thomas, whose occupation was described variously as steward/shepherd/carrier/ag. lab/labourer in parish and census records, and Jane had nine children:

·              George Rogerson born 11 November 1822 in Horncastle, Kirkwhelpington and christened 9 January 1823 at Great Bavington Presbyterian Church married Margaret Isabella Hedley of Thorneyburn in 1859 (please click on George’s name for more information);

·              Mary Rogerson born about 1830 in North Middleton, Hartburn was on the 1841 Census but as yet no birth/christening record has been found. ·        Isabella Rogerson, aged 7, appears on the 1861 Census with Thomas and Jane listed as their granddaughter. Isabella married George Wheatley of Corsenside on 2 June 1877 at St Andrew’s, Newcastle Upon Tyne (please click on Isabella’s name for more information).

·              Ann Rogerson born about 1832 in North Middleton, Hartburn was on the 1841 Census with Thomas and Jane and family but as yet no birth/christening record has been found. There is a possibility for Ann on the 1851 Census for Choppington (HO 107/2418 folio 454 page10) unmarried, aged 18, general servant, born Hartburn, however, nothing more is really known about her. Ann, too, is a possibility for the mother of the illegitimate Isabella above;
