eorge Oliver married Rosanna Daglish (christened on 6 January 1813 at St Hilda’s, South Shields, the daughter of Richard Daglish and Elizabeth Wood) on 17 March 1832 at Christ Church, Tynemouth, Northumberland, England.

 

George, a mariner, and Rosanna lived at Bottle Hill, Westoe, where their 10 children were born: 

 

·        Elizabeth Oliver christened 27 July 1832 at St Hilda’s, South Shields;

 

·        Mary Oliver christened 18 December 1833 at St Hilda’s, South Shields died prior to the 1841 Census;

 

·        George Oliver christened 4 February 1835 at St Hilda’s, South Shields married Eleanor Elizabeth Grigs on 8 February 1863 at St Stephen’s, South Shields (please click on George’s name for more details);

 

·        Rosanna Oliver christened 16 November 1836 at St Hilda’s, South Shields married Edward Rowe on 16 August 1854 at St Hilda’s, South Shields (please click on Rosanna’s name for more details);

 

·        Richard Oliver born 3 May 1839 and christened 22 May 1839 at St Hilda’s, South Shields married Elizabeth Corn on 3 October 1858 at St Hilda’s, South Shields (please click on Richard’s name for more details);

 

·        John Oliver born at Bottle Hill, Westoe and christened 10 December 1841 at St Hilda’s, South Shields married widow Jane Chiverton nee Heath on 26 June 1870 at St James, Milton, Southsea, Hampshire (more details below);

 

·        Ann Oliver born 4 January 1843 at Bottle Hill, Westoe and christened 25 January 1843 at St Hilda’s, South Shields died at Bottle Hill and was buried on 3 March 1843 at St Hilda’s, aged 8 weeks;

 

·        James Oliver born 30 June 1844 at Bottle Hill, Westoe and christened 17 June 1846 at St Hilda’s, South Shields;

 

·        Alice Oliver born about March 1847 at Bottle Hill, Westoe married Hans Anderson on 10 December 1866 at St Hilda’s, South Shields; and

 

·        Mary Jane Oliver born in 1849 at Bottle Hill, Westoe married Anton Garman on 5 September 1868 at St Hilda’s, South Shields (please click on Mary Jane’s name for more details).

 

George died prior to the 1861 Census. His identity is one of our major brick walls! Can you help please?

 

Rosanna Oliver nee Daglish died in Westoe, South Shields in 1887, aged 76 years.

ohn Oliver was born about 30 May 1841 at Bottle Hill, Westoe, the sixth of 10 children born to George Oliver and Rosanna Daglish and christened at St Hilda’s on 10 December 1841. (John was one week old at the time of the 1841 Census held on 6 June 1841 but the parish register for St Hilda’s gives his birth as 15 June 1841.)

 

John was a gunner in the Royal Marine Artillery in Portsmouth, Hampshire at the time of his marriage to the widowed Jane Chiverton nee Heath on 26 June 1870 at St James, Milton, Portsea. (Jane was born in 1841 at Ryde on the Isle of Wight, the sixth of 16 children born to Henry Heath and Caroline Salter.) At the time of the 1871 Census John and Jane were living at 33 Leopold Street, Portsea (see photograph at top of page courtesy of Karen who took the photo in early 2006).

 

John and Jane had one child:

 

·        George Henry Oliver born about 1875 in Portsea, Hampshire (birth still to be located) married Edith Kilgour on 18 June 1900 at St Jude’s, South Shields (more details below).

 

John’s death has not yet been located but was prior to the 1881 Census.

 

Jane Oliver formerly Chiverton nee Heath married for the third time in 1886 in Camberwell, Surrey to Michael Moore of South Shields, who was also recently widowed and had a young family.

eorge Henry Oliver was the only son of John Oliver and Jane Chiverton nee Heath and was born about 1875 in Portsea, Hampshire. By the time of the 1881 Census George Henry was living in South Shields, Co. Durham with his Uncle George Oliver and his family and his mother was working as a housekeeper.

 

George Henry married Edith Kilgour at St Jude’s, South Shields on 18 June 1900. (Edith was born in 1877 in North Shields, Tynemouth, the daughter of John Kilgour and Georgina Mould.)

George Henry, a glassmaker, and Edith were the parents of:

 

·        Jane Elizabeth Oliver born 1 February 1901 at 144 South Palmerston Street, South Shields;

·        Gladys Oliver born in 1902 at 144 South Palmerston Street, South Shields;

·        George Henry Oliver born in 1905 at 144 South Palmerston Street, South Shields;

·        Edith Oliver born 30 January 1907 at 144 South Palmerston Street, South Shields;

·        Georgina Mould Oliver born 22 May 1909 at 144 South Palmerston Street, South Shields married Thomas Rutter Bullerwell on 3 May 1930 at the Register Office, Newcastle Upon Tyne (more details below);

·        Robert Oliver born in 1912 in Newcastle Upon Tyne;

·        Edward Oliver born in 1914 in Newcastle Upon Tyne;

·        Helen Oliver born in 1917 in Newcastle Upon Tyne;

·        Twin Oliver died in 1918 in Newcastle Upon Tyne; and

·        Twin Oliver died in 1918 in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

 

Edith Oliver nee Kilgour died in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1918, aged 41 years, along with the twins she was carrying. It is not known as yet when George Henry died.

eorgina Mould Oliver was the fifth child of George Henry Oliver and Edith Kilgour and was born on 22 May 1909 at 122 South Palmerston Street, South Shields.

 

Georgina married Thomas Rutter Bullerwell on 3 May 1930 at the Register Office, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Below is a transcript from the copy certificate:

Georgina and Thomas, a coal miner, had one daughter:

Georgina Mould Bullerwell nee Oliver died on 3 January 1985 at Denton Burn, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
