John Dalton & Elizabeth Burne

John Dalton was born in Great Salkeld, Cumberland, England and christened at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld on 12 January 1817, the son of Isaac Dalton and Anne Robinson.

 

John married Elizabeth Burne (born 20 June 1817 in Caldbeck and christened at St Kentigern’s, Caldbeck on 27 July 1817, the daughter of Richard Burne and Ann Smith) in 1846.

 

John, a farmer, and Elizabeth were the parents of:

 

·              Annie Dalton born in Townhead, Penrith and christened 16 April 1847 at St Andrew’s, Penrith was described as an “imbecile from birth” on the 1871 Census;

 

·              Mary Dalton born in Clifton, Westmorland and christened 5 January 1851 at St Cuthbert’s, Clifton married Joseph Jackson of Martindale, Westmorland on 25 February 1869 at St Michael’s, Skelton, Cumberland;

 

·              Elizabeth Dalton born in Unthank, Cumberland and christened 4 September 1853 at St James, Hutton-in-the-Forest married William Moore of Milburn, Westmorland in 1876; and

 

·              Joseph Dalton born in Unthank and christened 28 December 1856 at St James, Hutton-in-the-Forest.

 

John Dalton died in Hutton-in-the-Forest in 1885, aged 68 years.

 

Elizabeth Dalton nee Burne was living in Hutton-in-the-Forest at the time of the 1891 Census but nothing more is known about her from that time.
