Cumberland, England (although no christening has as yet been found) and
married Mary ? (born about 1708) about 1735 (marriage also
still to be located). John, a labourer, and Mary
were the parents of: ·
Isabel Dalton born at Ousby Shire and christened 23 February 1737 at St Luke’s,
Ousby; ·
Mary Dalton born at Ousby Shire and christened 10 April 1740
at St Luke’s, Ousby; and ·
John Dalton born at Ousby Shire and christened 24 August 1746
at St Luke’s, Ousby married Grace Allison on 4 February 1772 at
St Luke’s, Ousby (more details below). Mary Dalton nee ?, wife of John
Dalton of the Shire, Labourer, was buried on 4 April 1783 at St Luke’s,
Ousby, aged 75 years. John Dalton, of the Shire,
Labourer, Pauper, was buried at St Luke’s, Ousby on 17 September 1787, aged
75 years. |

Cumberland, England and christened 24 August 1746 at St Luke’s, Ousby, the
son of John Dalton and Mary ? John married Grace
Allison (christened 23 January 1750 at Hutton-in-the-Forest, the
daughter of Lancelot Allison and Jane Turner) on
13 February 1772 at St Luke’s, Ousby: John Dalton,
Carpenter, aged 25 and Grace Allison, Spinster, aged 21 both of this parish, were married
in the Church by Banns this 13th day of February 1772 by me
William Raincock, Rector This
marriage was solemnized between us John Dalton and Grace Dalton late Allison John, a carpenter, and Grace were the parents
of: ·
Jane Dalton born Ousby Shire and christened 6 June 1773 at St Luke’s, Ousby; ·
John Dalton born Ousby Shire and christened 15 October 1775 at
St Luke’s, Ousby; ·
Mary Dalton born Ousby Shire and christened 2 April 1780 at St
Luke’s, Ousby; and ·
Isaac Dalton born Ousby Row and christened 19 January 1783 at
St Luke’s, Ousby married Anne Robinson on 1 February 1808 at St
Cuthbert’s, Cliburn (more details below). Grace Dalton nee Allison was buried at
St Cuthbert’s Church, Great Salkeld on 25 September 1832. The register shows Grace’s
age as 86 years at the time of her death but she would, in fact, have been
about 82 years old. John
Dalton’s burial has yet to be

youngest son of John Dalton and Grace Allison. Isaac (25) married Anne
Robinson (20) of Cliburn (christened 12 October 1788 at St
Cuthbert’s, Cliburn, the daughter of Joseph Robinson
and Mary Roukby) on 1 February 1808 at St Cuthbert’s, Cliburn. Isaac, a husbandman,
and Anne were the parents of: ·
Jane Dalton born in Great Salkeld and
christened 20 September 1811 at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld married Richard
Atkinson on 6 June 1835 at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld (please
click on Jane’s name for more information); ·
Margaret Dalton born in Great Salkeld and christened 5 June 1814
at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld died in Great Salkeld and was buried 30
September 1816 at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld, aged 2 years; ·
John Dalton born in Great Salkeld and christened 12
January 1817 at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld married Elizabeth Burne
in 1846 (please click on John’s name for more information); ·
Joseph Dalton born in Great Salkeld and christened 12 March 1820 at St Cuthbert’s,
Great Salkeld married (1) Elizabeth Willan at St Michael’s,
Shap on 1 January 1846 and (2) Margaret Shufflebotham at St
Andrew’s, Penrith on 12 December 1852 (more details below); and ·
Thomas Dalton born in Great Salkeld and christened 18 February 1824 at St
Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld died in Great Salkeld and was buried 5 January 1843
at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld, aged 18 years. Anne Dalton nee Robinson died in Great Salkeld and
was buried on 9 April 1853 at St Cuthbert’s, Great Salkeld, aged 68 years.

Great Salkeld, the son of Isaac Dalton and Anne Robinson. Joseph married Elizabeth
Willan of Shap (christened 4 January 1815 at St Michael’s, Shap, the
daughter of Edward Willan and Agnes Burra) on 1
January 1846 at St Michael’s, Shap. Joseph, a carpenter, and Elizabeth
had one son: ·
Robert Edward Dalton born Shap and christened 14 July 1846 at St
Michael’s, Shap married Matilda Bailiff of Barton, Westmorland
on 4 April 1874 at St Michael’s, Barton (please click on Robert Edward’s name
for more information). Elizabeth Dalton nee Willan died in Shap prior to the
1851 Census. Joseph married Margaret
Shufflebotham (christened 8 February 1829 at St Andrew’s, Penrith,
the daughter of James
Shufflebotham and Jane Thompson) on 12 December
1852 at St Andrew’s, Penrith: Marriage
solemnized in the parish church of Penrith 12 December 1852 Shufflebotham,
Gentleman’s Servant Joseph and Margaret
were the parents of: ·
Thomas Dalton born Shap and christened 2 May 1853 at St Michael’s, Shap; ·
Jane Dalton born about 1855 in Penrith; ·
Elizabeth Ann Dalton born about 1857 in Penrith; ·
Mary Dalton born about 1859 in Penrith; ·
Isaac Dalton born 6 January 1865 at 6 Mill Street, Penrith and
christened 8 January 1865 at St Andrew’s, Penrith married Kate
Elizabeth Smith on 4 August 1888 at St John’s in the Vale, Keswick (more
details below); and ·
John Dalton born at 6 Mill Street, Penrith and christened 13
September 1868 at St Andrew’s, Penrith died in Penrith in early 1881, aged 12
years. Joseph

Isaac, a labourer in
the mines, and Kate had seven children, one of whom we know
nothing about at this time: ·
Thomas William Dalton born Threlkeld and christened 8 June 1889 at St
Mary’s, Threlkeld; ·
Annie Dalton christened 3 July 1892 at St Mary’s, Threlkeld
died in 1894, aged 2 years; ·
Florence Dalton born Keswick about March 1894; ·
Joseph Dalton born 16 January 1896 in Keswick; ·
Mary Jane Dalton born 3 June 1897 at Back Lane, Keswick; and ·
Margaret Dalton born 13 May 1899 at Back Lane, Keswick married George
Robert Rogerson Coulson on 6 December 1926 at St James,
Benwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne (more details below). Isaac Dalton died of
pneumonia on 31 January 1900 at Mary Hewetson Hospital, Keswick, aged 35
years. Kate Elizabeth Dalton nee
Smith
died in Benwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1945, aged 77 years. |

daughter of Isaac Dalton and Kate Elizabeth Smith.
Margaret married George
Robert Rogerson Coulson, (born at Sandybraes Cottage,
Capheaton, Northumberland on 22 April 1901, the son of Edward Coulson
and Laura Rogerson) on 6 December 1926 at St James, Benwell,
Newcastle Upon Tyne. Margaret
Coulson nee Dalton died in Newcastle General Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne on 8
September 1975, aged 76 years. |
