William Coulson & Jane Rutherford
William Coulson was born on 6 May 1809 in Gunnerton, Northumberland, England and christened at St Giles, Chollerton on 28 May 1809, the second child of Thomas Coulson and Elizabeth Davison.
William married Jane Rutherford on 13 May 1834 at St John of Beverley, Acomb in the presence of Francis Coulson and Ann Rutherford.
William, a farmer, and Jane were the parents of:
1. Thomas Coulson born Gunnerton and christened 31 August 1834 at St Giles, Chollerton died aged 1 day and was buried at St Giles, Chollerton on 1 September 1834;
2. Margaret Coulson born Gunnerton and christened 31 January 1836 at St Giles, Chollerton never married and died at Hole House farm in the parish of Wark on 16 August 1866 and was buried on 18 August 1866 at St Michael’s, Wark, aged 30 years; Updated!
3. Elizabeth Coulson born Tone Lodge, Chollerton and christened 17 December 1837 at St Giles, Birtley married Charles William McKay on 6 March 1870 at St Michael’s, Wark. Elizabeth and Charles, a gardener, were the parents of:
· Jane McKay born Heddon on the Wall Apr-Jun 1871; and
· Charles William McKay born Heddon on the Wall Oct-Dec 1871.
4. Thomas Coulson born Tone Lodge and christened 17 November 1839 at St Giles, Birtley married Sarah Jane Snowdon in Jan-Mar 1869 in Tynemouth. Thomas, a builder, and Sarah Jane were the parents of:

John William Coulson born in 1871 in Tynemouth;

Robert Frederick Coulson born in 1873 in Tynemouth;
·
Joseph Walter Coulson born in 1874 in Tynemouth;
·
Emily Coulson born in 1877 in Tynemouth;
·
Grace Elizabeth Jane Coulson born 11 October 1878 in Tynemouth;
·
Edith Coulson born in 1881 in Tynemouth; and
· Thomas Coulson born about 1886 in Tynemouth.

5. Mary Ann Coulson born Tone Lodge and christened 4 July 1841 at St Giles, Birtley died at Hole House farm on 15 January 1866, aged 24 years, and was interred at St Kentigern’s, Crosthwaite, Keswick, Cumberland; Updated!
6. Walter Coulson born Tone and christened 27 February 1844 at St Giles, Birtley;
7. Magdalene Coulson born about December 1846 at Tone and christened 21 July 1847 at St Giles, Birtley married Adam Nichol on 1 March 1873 at St Michael’s, Wark. Magdalene and Adam, a shepherd, were the parents of:
· Walter Nichol born Thorneyburn in 1874;
· William Nichol born Falstone in 1876;
· Adam Nichol born Falstone in 1878;
· Andrew Nichol born Falstone in 1880;
· James L Nichol born Wark in 1883;
· Mary Magdalene Nichol born Wark in 1885; and
· Edward Nichol born Wark in 1888.
8. Jane Coulson born Tone and christened 13 May 1848 at St Giles, Birtley;
9. Ellen Coulson born Keswick, Cumberland and christened 7 November 1852 at St Kentigern’s, Crosthwaite married Robert Turnbull on 5 May 1877 at St Michael’s, Wark. Ellen and Robert, a miller and farmer, were the parents of:
· Elliot Turnbull born at Ramshaw’s Mill, Warksburn in 1878.
10. Edith Hannah Coulson born Keswick and christened on 25 November 1855 at St Kentigern’s, Crosthwaite.
William Coulson died at Hole House farm on 10 October 1879 and was buried on 13 October 1879 at St Michael’s, Wark, aged 71 years. Updated!
Jane Coulson nee Rutherford
continued farming at Hole House until her death on 5
June 1886 and was buried at St Michael’s, Wark on 8 June 1886, aged 75
