Coulson
was born in Gunnerton, Northumberland, England on 16 June 1811 and christened
11 August 1811 at St Giles, Chollerton, the third child of Thomas Coulson
and Elizabeth Davison.
Francis married
his second cousin Mary Robson (christened 24 March 1822 at St
Giles, Birtley, the daughter of Robert Robson and Mary
Hedley) on 24 October 1840 at St Michael’s, Wark:

occupations throughout his life including hind/husbandman, drayman and
labourer.

Wark and christened 10 May 1841 at St Michael’s, Wark;
2. Mary Coulson born
Latterford and christened 1 January 1843 at St Michael’s, Wark married Andrew
Nichol in 1869. Mary and Andrew, a
shepherd, were the parents of:

Annie Nichol born
in Chollerton and christened 9 March 1873 at St Giles, Chollerton; and
·
Mary Magdalene Nichol born in Chollerton in 1875.
Andrew Nichol died at Gunnerton Fell in
the parish of Chollerton and was buried at St Giles, Birtley on 8 April 1883,
aged 62 years.
Mary Nichol nee Coulson died at
Heugh, Birtley and was buried on 2 March 1899 at St Giles, Birtley, aged 56
years.
3. Thomas Mitford Coulson born
Low Moralee and christened 9 March 1845 at St Michael’s, Wark married Jane
Rutherford in 1867 at St John the Baptist, Newcastle upon Tyne. Thomas,
a labourer and later an innkeeper then moulder, and Jane were the
parents of:

James Francis Coulson born in 1870 in Gateshead;
·
Joseph Coulson born in 1874 in Gateshead;
·
Walter Coulson born in 1877 in Gateshead;
·
Elizabeth Mary Jane Coulson born in 1880 in Gateshead; and
·
Thomas Mitford Coulson born in 1883 in Gateshead.
4. Robert Coulson born
Low Moralee and christened 14 February 1847 at St Michael’s, Wark married Elizabeth
Hall on 16 March 1872 at Bothal. Robert, a coal miner
and later a shop keeper, and Elizabeth were the parents of:

John William Coulson born at Longhirst Colliery in Oct-Dec 1872 and christened
19 October 1873 at Ulgham died at Longhirst Colliery and was buried on 11
October 1876 at St John’s, Longhirst aged 3½ years;
·
Mary Jane Coulson born at Longhirst Colliery and christened 26 July
1874 at the Primitive Methodist, Ashington and Newbiggin Circuit;
·
Margaret Hall Coulson born at Longhirst Colliery about 1876;
·
Francis Coulson born 5 April 1880 at Longhirst Colliery;
·
James Edward Coulson born at Longhirst Colliery and christened at St
John’s, Longhirst on 12 November 1882;
·
Ann Eleanor Coulson born in Gateshead, Co. Durham and christened at
Gateshead Holy Trinity on 17 August 1885; and
·
Elizabeth McDinning Coulson born in Gateshead, Co. Durham and
christened at Gateshead Holy Trinity on 20 October 1887.

Kirkfield and christened 6 May 1849 at St Michael’s, Wark;

Wark and christened 19 October 1851 at St Michael’s, Wark married Elizabeth
Mitcheson in 1873 in Bellingham. Francis, a shepherd,
and Elizabeth were the parents of:

John Coulson born Elsdon in 1873 died at Troughend, Elsdon in 1886 aged 12 years;

Edward Coulson born 23 July 1878 at Troughend, Elsdon;

Wark Brewery and christened 23 April 1854 at St Michael’s, Wark married Gertrude
Lacey Smith in 1885. Edward, a saddler, and Gertrude
were the parents of:

Thomas Coulson born in Bellingham and christened 21 August 1885 at St Cuthbert’s,
Bellingham was buried at Bellingham on 1 September 1885;
·
Francis Coulson born in Bellingham in 1886;
·
Eva Lacey Coulson born in Bellingham in 1889;
·
Mary Louise Coulson born in Bellingham in 1895; and
·
James Gunton Coulson born in Bellingham in 1897.

Brewery and christened 8 June 1856 at St Michael’s, Wark married Edward
Foster in 1875;
9. Martha Magdalene Coulson born
Gunnerton and christened 18 July 1858 at St Giles, Chollerton married Thomas
Milburn Nesbit in the Register Office, Newcastle Upon Tyne on 11
January 1883. Martha Magdalene and Thomas, a mason,
were the parents of:

Mary Eleanor Nesbitt born on 24 October 1888 at Gunnerton Fell in the
parish of Chollerton and christened 13 January 1889 at St Giles, Birtley;
·
Jane Nesbitt born on 2 November 1891 at Chipchase Pit House in the parish of
Chollerton and christened 22 May 1892 at St Giles, Birtley;
·
Margaret Ann Foster Nesbitt born on 28 January 1893 at Chipchase Pit House in
the parish of Chollerton and christened 24 September 1893 at St Giles, Birtley;
·
Dinah Nesbitt born on 20 May 1895 at Chipchase Pit House and christened at St Giles,
Birtley on 8 September 1898; and
·
Magdalene Nesbitt born on 19 April 1899 at Chipchase Pit House and
christened 27 August 1899 at St Giles, Birtley.
Thomas Milburn Nesbit died at Pit House, Birtley
and was buried 21 November 1917 at St Giles, Birtley, aged 59 years.
Martha Magdalene Nesbit nee Coulson died at Pitt House and was
buried 30 July 1947 at St Giles, Birtley, aged 89 years.
10. Eleanor Coulson born
Gunnerton and christened 29 March 1861 at St Giles, Chollerton; and
11. Joseph Coulson born
Gunnerton and christened 8 October 1865 at St Giles, Chollerton died at the
Heugh, Birtley in October 1893 and was buried on 25 October 1893 at St Giles,
Birtley aged 28 years;
Francis
Coulson died at Gunnerton Fell in the parish of Chollerton in November 1886
and was buried at St Giles, Birtley on 1 December 1886, aged 75 years.
Mary Coulson nee
Robson died at the Heugh, Birtley in July 1892 and was buried on 1 August
1892 at St Giles, Birtley, aged 70 years.
