Thomas married Elizabeth Davison (christened 28 January 1781 at St Cuthbert’s, Allendale, the daughter of Francis Davison and Magdalene Leonard) on 11 November 1806 at St Giles, Chollerton: Thomas Coulson and Elizabeth Davison both of
this Parish were married in the Church by Banns this Eleventh Day of
November 1806 by me Oswald Head Vicar This marriage was solemnized between us Thomas Coulson and Elizabeth Davison (her
mark) In Presence of us Margt Thompson, Gawen
Coulson Thomas, a shoemaker, and Elizabeth were the parents of:
Elizabeth
Coulson nee Davison died in Barrasford and was buried on 14 November 1858 at
St Giles, Chollerton, aged 77 years. Thomas Coulson
died in Barrasford and was buried on 24 March 1861 at St Giles, Chollerton,
aged 84 years.

Edward married Mary Ann Bell (christened 24 August 1815 at St Mary’s, Blanchland, the daughter of Joseph Bell and Jane Beck) at St John’s, Shotley on 12 May 1840: Marriage solemnized by Banns in the parish
of Shotley, Northumberland May 12th 1840 Edward Coulson of full age, Bachelor,
Servant, Shotley Hall, Thomas Coulson, Shoemaker Mary Ann Bell – Spinster, Servant, Mosswood,

Slee, Isabella Richardson Edward and Mary Ann were the parents of:
Edward had a variety of
professions. He began his career as a Servant at Shotley Hall, where
he was working at the time of his marriage in 1840. In 1841/42 Edward
and family were living at Gunnerton Fell and Edward was working
as an Agricultural Labourer/Husbandman. At the time of Joseph’s
christening in 1843 the family was living at Seldom Seen (?), Gunnerton and Edward
was back in service and recorded as a Footman, which was the
occupation given on his children’s christenings throughout the 1840’s. By
1850 at the time of daughter Mary Ann’s christening Edward
was recorded as a Butler (and
throughout the 1850’s). By the mid 1860’s Edward and Mary
Ann and family had moved to the Queen’s Head Inn, East Woodburn,
where Edward was the Innkeeper, and a Farmer of
22 acres. Mary
Ann Coulson nee Bell died in East
Woodburn and was buried 30 May 1889 at St Cuthbert’s, Corsenside, aged 76
years (actually would have been about 74). Edward Coulson died
in East Woodburn and was buried 10 June 1890, aged 70 years, at St Cuthbert’s,
Corsenside.

Sadler George, a tailor, and Mary Jane were the parents of:

1881 George and Mary Jane were living with
George’s parents at the Queen’s Head Inn, East Woodburn. By
1891 George’s parents had died and George
and family had moved to Capheaton where they lived in a cottage in the
village and George was employed as a Master Tailor and
Postmaster. George Coulson died in Capheaton on 27 August 1915
aged 60 years. Mary
Jane Coulson nee Bell died at Manor Farm, Benton on 3 April 1937 aged 80 years. While
visiting England in 1985 George’s great
grandson, Stanley Dalton Coulson, discovered the headstone
of George and Mary Jane and three of their
sons in the graveyard at St Bartholomew’s, Kirkwhelpington. |

Edward, a tailor, and Laura were the parents of:
Edward
developed tuberculosis and on 4 August 1906 travelled to Natal, South
Africa aboard the “Gaika” with younger brother Thomas (a
journey of 49 days), probably in the hope of finding a cure in the hot, dry
climate of the Orange Free State. Edward
Coulson died on 16 October 1906 (just two weeks after his arrival) at Rydal
Mount near Witzieshoek in the Orange Free State, aged 29 years. Laura Coulson nee Rogerson died in Morpeth, Northumberland on 26 January 1978, aged 98 years. |

Stan married Joan Bullerwell (born in 1931, the daughter of Thomas Rutter Bullerwell (temporarily unavailable) and Georgina Mould Oliver) in Scotswood, Newcastle Upon Tyne six months before immigrating to New Zealand aboard the ‘Southern Cross’.
