1st Generation
John Bullerwell was born about 1705 and lived at Lintzford beside the River Derwent in the parish of Ryton, Co. Durham, England. His occupation was most likely farming.
John married Eleanor Gibson on 7 July 1741 at Holy Cross Church, Ryton, Co. Durham.
John and Eleanor were the parents of:
· George Bullerwell born at Lintzford and christened 1 November 1741 at Ryton Holy Cross married (1) Isabel Hall on 24 September 1765 at Ryton, and (2) Ann Watson on 16 September 1779 at Ryton (more details below);
· John Bullerwell born at Lintzford and christened 25 September 1743 at Ryton Holy Cross married Isabella Dick on 5 September 1782 at St Michael’s, Bishopwearmouth; and
· Robert Bullerwell born at Lintzford and christened 1 June 1746 at Ryton about whom nothing more is known, although it is suspected he may have moved to Liverpool, Lancashire.
John Bullerwell died at Fellside in the parish of Whickham, Co. Durham and was buried on 21 October 1779 at St Mary’s, Whickham.
Eleanor Bullerwell nee Gibson died at Monkwearmouth Shore, Co. Durham and was buried on 3

2nd Generation
George Bullerwell was born at Lintzford in the parish of Ryton, Co. Durham, England and christened 1 November 1741 at Holy Cross, Ryton, the eldest son of John Bullerwell and Eleanor Gibson.
George married Isabel Hall on 24 September 1765 at Holy Cross Church, Ryton, Co. Durham.
George, a farmer, and Isabel were the parents of:
· George Bullerwell born at Chopwell in the parish of Ryton and christened 7 May 1766 at Ryton Holy Cross married (1) Isabel Lawes on 17 June 1794 at Ryton Holy Cross and (2) Frances Swan on 12 May 1800 at Ryton;
· John Bullerwell born at Merry Shield Common in the parish of St Peter’s, Bywell, Northumberland and christened 20 December 1767 at St Peter’s, Bywell married Maria Jackson on 10 April 1803 at St Michael’s, Bishopwearmouth, Co. Durham;

· William Bullerwell born at Merry Shield Common, Bywell and christened 19 February 1775 at St Peter’s, Bywell had a relationship with (1) Margaret Aytman in 1795 in Ryton, Co. Durham and married (2) Elizabeth Wilkinson on 29 November 1798 at Ryton Holy Cross and (3) Mary Simpson on 22 May 1803 at St Michael’s, Bishopwearmouth.
Isabel Bullerwell nee Hall died at Merry Shield Common, Bywell and was buried on 2 April 1777 at Ryton Holy Cross, Co. Durham.
George remained at Merry Shield Common until at least 1778 when he is recorded in the parish register of St Peter’s, Bywell as a Church warden. However, by 1779 he and the children had returned to Ryton.
George married Ann Watson on 16 September 1779 at Holy Cross Church, Ryton, Co. Durham.
George and Ann were the parents of:
· Thomas Bullerwell born at Blaydon in the parish of Ryton and christened 19 March 1780 at Ryton Holy Cross married Eleanor Bainbridge on 6 May 1814 at Christ Church, Tynemouth, Northumberland;
· Edward Bullerwell born at Blaydon and christened 29 April 1781 at Ryton Holy Cross married (1) Jane Leishman on 3 October 1802 at St John the Baptist, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland and (2) Elizabeth Hodgson nee Dawson on 2 December 1818 at St Mary’s, Gateshead, Co. Durham;
· James Bullerwell born at Stella in the parish of Ryton and christened 21 September 1783 at Ryton Holy Cross died at Stella and was buried 18 August 1785 at Ryton Holy Cross;
· James Bullerwell born at Stella and christened 16 April 1786 at Ryton Holy Cross married Elizabeth Swan on 25 April 1813 at St Mary’s, Heworth, Co. Durham;
· Isabella Bullerwell born at Stella and christened 23 August 1789 at Ryton Holy Cross had a relationship with (1) someone in 1817 and married (2) Thomas Adamson on 12 June 1822 at St Michael’s, Bishopwearmouth; and
· Joseph Bullerwell born at Stella about November 1792 was not christened but died at Stella and was buried 14 November 1792 at Ryton Holy Cross.
George Bullerwell died at Silksworth in the parish of Bishopwearmouth, Co. Durham and was buried on 8 October 1822 at St Michael’s, Bishopwearmouth, aged 82 years.
Ann Bullerwell nee Watson died at East Herrington, Co. Durham and was buried on 3 June 1823 at St Michael’s, Bishopwearmouth, aged 75 years.
3rd Generation
Robert Bullerwell was born at Merry Shield Common in the parish of Bywell, Northumberland, England and christened 15 April 1770 at St Peter’s, Bywell, the third son of George Bullerwell and Isabel Hall.
Robert married Ann Lawes (born at Smeales farm in the parish of Ryton and christened 9 April 1775 at Ryton Holy Cross, the daughter of Cuthbert Lawes and Isabel Richardson) on 2 June 1798 at Holy Cross Church, Ryton, Co. Durham.
Robert, a farmer, and Ann were the parents of:
· Robert Bullerwell born at Carr House, Chopwell on 26 August 1798 and christened 4 November 1798 at Ryton Holy Cross married Mary Shotton on 17 May 1830 at St Nicholas, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland;

Ann Bullerwell nee Lawes died at Smeales farm in the parish of Winlaton and was buried 16 February 1837 at Ryton Holy Cross, aged 62 years.
Robert Bullerwell died on 24 July 1858 at Smeales farm and was buried 27 July 1858 at Ryton Holy Cross, aged 88 years.
4th Generation
George Bullerwell was born at Carrs, Chopwell East Wood in the parish of Ryton, Co. Durham, England on 7 April 1800 and christened 4 May 1800 at Ryton Holy Cross, the second son of Robert Bullerwell and Ann Lawes.
George married widowed Isabella Brown nee Barnes (born on 3 April 1802 at Kip Hill, Beamish in the parish of Tanfield, Co. Durham and christened 6 June 1802 at St Margaret’s, Tanfield, the daughter of John Barnes and Margaret Young) on 31 May 1823 at Holy Cross Church, Ryton, Co. Durham.
George, a farmer then signalman for the Railway, and Isabella were the parents of:
· Robert Bullerwell born at Newacres in the parish of Lanchester, Co. Durham and christened 1 October 1823 at All Saints, Lanchester died at Blaydon Bank, Winlaton and was buried 7 January 1831 at Ryton Holy Cross, aged 7 years;
· Ann Bullerwell born at Newacres and christened 18 June 1826 at All Saints, Lanchester married Nicholson Barker on 6 July 1845 at St Paul’s, Winlaton;
· Leonard Bullerwell (also known as John) born at Newacres and christened 27 November 1827 at All Saints, Lanchester died at Blaydon Bank and was buried 7 January 1831 at Ryton Holy Cross, aged 3 years;

Isabella Bullerwell formerly Brown nee Barnes died at Scotswood Road, Benwell and was buried at St Michael’s, Newburn on 4 March 1885, aged 82 years.
5th Generation
John Bullerwell was born at Blaydon Bank in the parish of Winlaton, Co. Durham, England about October 1842, the ninth child of George Bullerwell and Isabella Barnes.
John married Elizabeth Ann Todd (born at Coalburns, Winlaton in 1848, the daughter of Thomas Todd and Elizabeth Bowman) in 1868 at St John the Baptist, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
John, a butcher and innkeeper then coal miner, and Elizabeth Ann were the parents of:
· Jane Ann Bullerwell born at Wylam, Northumberland in 1868 died at Wylam and was buried 15 March 1869 at St Mary’s, Ovingham, aged 1 year;
· John George Bullerwell born at Wylam and christened 1 August 1869 at St Mary’s, Ovingham died at Wylam and was buried 8 August 1869 at St Mary’s, Ovingham, aged 10 weeks;
· Isabella Bullerwell born at Wylam in 1870;

6th Generation
Cuthbert Bullerwell was born at Scotswood in the parish of Benwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England and christened 4 April 1886 at St Michael’s, Newburn, the fourth child of John Bullerwell and Dorothy Isabella Dixon.
Cuthbert married Jane Isabella Rutter (born in Newburn on 7 June 1883, the daughter of Thomas Rutter and Jane Musgrove) on 14 October 1905 at the Register Office, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Cuthbert, a coal miner, and Jane Isabella had four children, the eldest of whom was:
· Thomas Rutter Bullerwell born at No. 2 Johnson Street, Lemington, Newcastle Upon Tyne on 28 April 1906 married Georgina Mould Oliver on 3 May 1930 at the Register Office, Newcastle Upon Tyne (more details below).
Cuthbert Bullerwell died in Scotswood on 11 February 1933 and was buried in Elswick Cemetery, Newcastle Upon Tyne on 15 February 1933, aged 46 years.
Jane Isabella Bullerwell nee Rutter married George R Thirlwell in 1946 in Newcastle Upon Tyne and died on 26 February 1960, aged 76 years.
7th Generation
Thomas Rutter Bullerwell was born at No. 2 Johnson Street, Lemington, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England on 28 April 1906, the eldest son of Cuthbert Bullerwell and Jane Isabella Rutter.
Thomas married Georgina Mould Oliver (born at South Palmerston Street, South Shields, Co. Durham on 22 May 1909, the daughter of George Henry Oliver and Edith Kilgour) on 3 May 1930 at the Register Office, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Thomas, a coal miner, and Georgina had one daughter:
· Joan Bullerwell born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1931 married Stanley Coulson in 1955 at the Scotswood Methodist Church, Whitfield Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne (more details below).
Thomas Rutter Bullerwell died on 3 December 1984 in Newcastle General Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne, aged 78 years.
Georgina Mould Bullerwell nee Oliver died on 3 January 1985 at home in Denton Burn, Newcastle Upon Tyne, aged 75 years.
8th Generation
Joan Bullerwell was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England in 1931, the only child of Thomas Rutter Bullerwell and Georgina Mould Oliver.
Joan married Stanley Dalton Coulson (born in Benwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1927, the son of George RR Coulson and Margaret Dalton) in 1955 at the Scotswood Methodist Church, Whitfield Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Joan and Stan left England aboard the Southern Cross in December 1955, arriving in New Zealand in January 1956.
Joan and Stan had two daughters, the eldest of whom is:
· Lynne Coulson born in New Zealand.
Joan Coulson nee Bullerwell died at her home in New Zealand in January 1999. Dearly loved and missed ~ until we meet again!
