acob Bell was born about 1767 in Halton, a chapelry in the parish of Corbridge, Northumberland, England. (No christening has been found as yet but it is believed that Jacob was the son of Luke Bell and Hannah Yielder.)

 

Jacob married Ann Rutter (daughter of Joseph Rutter and Mary Brown) on 28 April 1800 at St John of Beverly, Acomb, Northumberland:

 

Jacob Bell of the parish of Corbridge, Batchelor, and Ann Rutter of this parish

were married in this Church by Banns this twenty eighth Day of April in the Year

One Thousand Eight Hundred By me B Leeke, Curate

Jacob, a farmer, and Ann were the parents of:

 

·        Margaret Bell born in the parish of Stamfordham and christened 17 August 1800 at St Aidan’s, Thockrington married William Maughan on 4 December 1825 at St Michael’s, Wark (please click on Margaret’s name for more details);

 

·        Michael Bell born 14 July 1802 at Parkhouse in the parish of Chollerton and christened at St Giles, Birtley[LGC1]  on 8 August 1802 married Mary Wilkinson of Bellingham on 4 June 1826 at St Cuthbert’s, Bellingham (there is more information available on this branch of our family on Ryk Brown’s website);

 

·        Joseph Bell born 5 May 1804 and christened 10 June 1804 at St Giles, Birtley[LGC2]  married Jane Wallace of Otterburn (daughter of Peter Wallace and Sarah Potts) about 1831 (there is more information available on this branch of our family on Ryk Brown’s website);

 

·        Hannah Bell born 1 April 1806 and christened 1 June 1806 at St Giles, Birtley[LGC3]  married Adam Storey on 6 September 1828 at St Michael’s, Wark;

 

·        Jacob Bell born 13 October 1807 and christened 8 November 1807 at St Giles, Birtley[LGC4]  married Elizabeth Little of Falstone on 17 January 1835 at St Giles, Chollerton (there is more information available on this branch of our family on Ryk Brown’s website);

 

·        Luke Bell born 15 June 1810 at Bent House, Greystead and christened 15 July 1810 at St Peter’s, Falstone married Margaret Shipley in 1839 (please click on Luke’s name for more details); and

 

·        John Bell born 4 January 1812 at Bent House, Greystead and christened at St Cuthbert’s, Bellingham[LGC5]  on 21 September 1812 married Frances Stobbart at St Michael’s, Wark on 8 June 1839 (more details below).

 

Ann Bell nee Rutter died in Warksburn prior to the 1851 Census.

 

Jacob Bell died in the 1850’s. No further details are known at this time.

ohn Bell was born 4 January 1812 at Bent House, Greystead, Northumberland, England and christened 21 September 1812 at St Cuthbert’s, Bellingham, the youngest child of Jacob Bell and Ann Rutter.

 

John married Frances Stobbart (daughter of Matthew Stobbart and Margaret Nichols) on 8 June 1839 at St Michael’s & All Angels, Wark:

John, a farmer, and Frances were the parents of:

  

·        Matthew Michael Bell born in Warden and christened 20 October 1839 at St Michael’s, Warden married Mary Dagg in Oct-Dec of 1860 in Bellingham (please click on Matthew’s name for more details);

 

·        Ann Bell born about 1841 in Ovingham married John Robert Purvis on 21 April 1862 at All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne (there is more information available on this branch of our family on Ryk Brown’s website);

 

·        Margaret Bell born about 1844 at Ovingham about whom nothing more is known after the 1861 Census when she was living with her parents at Houxty Bank Head;

 

·        Jacob Bell born Moory Walls, Bellingham and christened 8 February 1846 at St Cuthbert’s, Bellingham married Jane Ann Armitage (of Hessle, East Riding, Yorkshire) in 1870 in Hull, Yorkshire (please click on Jacob’s name for more details);

 

·        John Bell born Moory Walls and christened 30 July 1848 at St Cuthbert’s, Bellingham married Sarah Nelson in 1874 in Cumberland;

 

·        Hannah Bell born at Moorfields, Bellingham and christened 16 February 1851 at St Cuthbert’s, Bellingham died at Houxty Bankhead and was buried at St Michael’s, Wark on 9 November 1859, aged 8 years.

 

John and Frances moved in about February/March of 1851 to Bankhead Cottage, Houxty, in the parish of Wark (which remained in the family for more than 50 years) where their three youngest children were born:

 

·        Luke Bell christened 23 April 1854 at St Michael’s, Wark married Anne Dawson at St Giles, Chollerton on 13 November 1876 (there is more information on our branch of the Bell family from North Tynedale, Northumberland on Ryk Brown’s website, whose wife Heather is a descendant of Luke Bell and Anne Dawson’s daughter Frances who married Job Tasker in Canada);

 

·        Mary Jane Bell christened 29 April 1856 at St Michael’s, Wark married George Coulson at the Register Office, Newcastle Upon Tyne on 24 February 1877 (more details below); and

 

·        Hannah Bell christened 29 December 1861 at St Michael’s, Wark died at Houxty Bank Cottage and was buried at Wark on 23 August 1881, aged 19 years.

 

Frances Bell nee Stobbart died at Houxty Bankhead and was buried on 13 September 1876 at St Michael’s, Wark, aged 59 years.

 

John Bell died at Houxty Bankhead and was buried at St Michael’s, Wark on 6 April 1882, aged 70 years.

Mary Jane married George Coulson (born in Gunnerton and christened 4 February 1855 at St Giles, Chollerton, the son of Edward Coulson and Mary Ann Bell) on 24 February 1877 in Newcastle Register Office:
