How I got started
One day, whilst searching a second-hand bookshop, I came across a book by H.V.Morton. I wanted something to read during some spare time, so decided to buy the book for 50c. To my amazement I was unable to put the book down and so began my fascination with this great author. Several years later and not only have I read most of his books but have been able to collect almost all of his various titles. It has become apparent over the years that Morton's work is still as popular today as it was when first published. In fact some of his books are still in print. Me, I'm just an ordinary bloke who realises that some things are worth keeping and one of these is the knowledge that Morton has written about things and places that are still relevant to today's world. You only have to look at the mayhem in Israel to realise that many places he wrote about may soon not be there, so how are we to learn about them in the future or more important, how are future generations going to learn. So, if you like reading for any reason, let me invite you try one of H.V.Morton's books. You certainly won't hurt yourself but you may enjoy the experience and go on to read more of his work. I know he is not everybody's “cup of tea” but what have you got to lose. I am 60 years of age, married with two grown up boys, retired but still doing odd jobs here and there. I have lead a pretty dull sort of life but when I do something I like to give it 100% and this is a cause I fell very strongly about.
