WORK EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS
19 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. This experience covers entry-level production through to mid-level management positions.
Over two years' experience as a Programme Manager/Tutor at tertiary level, training the next generation of managers in both theoretical and practical skills. I am experienced at designing and delivering training that meets the needs of external stakeholders, the organisation and the individual learner.
I have experience in managing the recruitment, induction and training of new team members.
Since 1984 I have held management roles in the operation of the voting process for both local body and central government elections.
I have served as a Human Resource Consultant for a previous employer where the company was undergoing a change in management structure and redefining its core business. This included designing and carrying out survey research, reporting and acting on the results of that research, and acting as a support for team members faced with the effects of change.
My work experience covers both the public and private sectors.
CURRENT STUDY
I am currently completing my third paper towards a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business and Administration at Massey University. This year's paper is "The Learning Organisation" and looks at how we can create a culture within the organisation that encourages all team members to learn and apply new skills, both in their work and personal lives, and the benefits that will flow from this.
AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST
While most of my career thus far has been in the `operational` side of management I have a particular interest in the `people` side of management.
This includes the identification and removal of barriers that affect the ability to learn, use of accelerated learning techniques, and design, delivery and evaluation of training.
I am also interested in the negotiation and maintenance of the employment relationship and how this affects the ability of both the organisation and the individual to reach their goals.

COMMENT
I get a real buzz out of seeing trainees leave one of my sessions or courses able to do something that, until a few hours ago, they either could not do, or thought they could not do. For me learning should be both a shared and a fun experience, and it is certainly true that I have learned as much from my trainees as they have learned from me. It is also important for me to keep track of how skills, once taught, are applied away from the training situation. This allows me to modify my content and presentation techniques to ensure the continued relevance and value of my training.
People are the most important resource of any organisation and I will keep developing and extending myself so that I can continue to add value through the sharing of my knowledge, skills and abilities.
