Is wheat a killer?
Diabetes affects many people who change from regional diets to Western diets. The pattern is so obvious as to be unremarkable. As a nelper I would find it remarkable if there were a group of people who had changed to a Western diet and didn't have a vastly increased incidence of diabetes.
Are there any exceptions to the rule.
"?? Change to Western diet - increased incidence of diabetes ?? "
If there are I'd like to know.
If there are exceptions (and there are bound to be some) what is different about those exceptions?
Noticing exceptions to rules leads to greater flexibility.

It occurs to me that most indigenus people who have high incidence of diabetes have been introduced to wheat for the first time.
The wild and unsubstantiated thought occurred to me, "Culd it be that rye/linseed is healthier for people making the transition to a more modern diet."
Recently I made a lifestyle decision to change my diet. For the most part this means eating Mediterrenian food. Fresh vegetables, fresh herbs, fish particularly anchovies. It also means eating every three/four hours during the day starting with flax fibre and wheatbix for breakfast.
The other significant decision was to avoid bread made with wheat flour.
This is replaced with rye/linseed bread. It is made wheat free and and yeast free. For those interested in rye/linseed bread contact dovedalefoods@ts.co.nz
Dovedale Foods also produce Fruit and Rice gluten free and yeast free bread.
Who knows which if any of these things is signficant. The fact remains. I have lost 5 kg in about as many weeks. My blood sugar levels are more stable and I am healthier for it. I haven't the slightest idea what will or won't work for you. This is what is working for me.
Footnote. I have now lost a total of 14 kg. I expect to lose another 10 kg by next Christmas. That's 1 kg/month. In practise most weeks I seem to lose another kg. My aim isn't weightloss per se. It's health gain. Without hyperattention being given to weight I am free to discover new wayst to become healthier. It is all very liberating.
I am now baking my own bread. It took some time to come up with a winning recipe. It includes rye, buckwheat, spelt, soy, wheatgerm and gluten. Gluten and I seem to get on fine.
