In passing ... with distinction

G'day G'day Folks,

In the tertiary institute where I work there is a math teacher who is
well known for maintaining rapport with his math classes with his
gentle mannered approach. He assures me that much of his skill comes
from a simple technique he has observed that puts trust in the
students own self-correction capabilities.

For example, if he asks an introductory class
"How much is three to the power of two?"

An answer he might receive is, "Six."

To which he would reply,

"Oh, OK ... and in passing what about ... three times two."

Typically the student responds, "Nine."
<Pause.> "The answer to three to the power of two is nine."

Sometimes its so simple.
