It really struck me how airway and breathing gets priority.

If you are considering dieting in order to lose weight then it might be wise to consider that this view of diet is akin to first aid. Now it just might be that the first aid priorities of airways, breathing, circulation are worthy of attention.
Think about it. In general, metabolism requires oxygen.
Have you had a complete test of lung function recently?
Prudent gym owners advocate or even insist on a medical check up before beginning an exercise program.
IMHO it might be smart even if you only intend to lose weight by dieting.
