Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island and is known as the 'Garden City' of New Zealand. Day Trips

Christchurch is also an ideal base for a number of day trips and activities. These include the ski fields at Mount Hutt, whale watching at Kaikoura, swimming with dolphins at the old French settlement of Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula, thermal pools at Hamner Springs and the spectacular 'Tranz Alpine' rail journey to Greymouth on the West Coast.
