'The Geek had used his siren to stuff up my chances for a goal: that sickening little creep who lives his life hanging out of his bedroom window. He is going to die! My brother, Jack, could help me with that. Whenever Jack takes time off from shoplifting he likes to hurt somebody. Usually me."
Rochelle has her hopes set on one day playing in the National Women's Inline Hockey team. Her goal seems to slip from her reach as she gets sucked into Jack's world of gangs and drug dealing. But is the gang life what Rochelle's brother really wants or is it a choice his father has made for him? Rochelle finds herself in a dangerous world supported by the most unlikely companions including her alcoholic ex-con hockey coach. There's a price to be paid for these friendships. An ultimate price!
Lethal Deliveries is about young New Zealand teenagers who face choices every day of their lives: tough choices. Often these choices are forced upon them by the dysfunctional behaviour of their parents and other adults around them. Rochelle and her older brother Jack, the two main characters in the book, have aspirations to succeed in sport as do many Kiwi teenagers. But Jack and Rochelle have to survive the drug dealing and gang activities of Jack's father and make sense of the void left by Rochelle's absent father. Their mother, a solo parent, works long and hard hours to keep a home together but can't always keep her children safe. Jack is used by his father as a drug mule and Rochelle feels compelled to save him.
"It is fantastic to see a work of fiction that is suitable for both boys and girls from the hand of someone who knows teenagers." Jeremy Kilty. Secondary Advisor Literacy & English, Massey University
