Ventura Crash
This was the first successful aircraft search we made. Once I get the dates and some info off Tim, this page will be made complete. Stay tuned!

Haggas Honking Holes
We had planned to do the Tongoriro Crossing, but because of the foul weather we had to flag that trip, so the Haggas Honking Holes turned out to be the big adventure of our holidays.

Over New Years 2000/2001 I went for a little holiday with Fleur, my lovely
girlfriend, and probably the best thing we did was the Waitomo Adventures Haggas Honking Holes. The Waitomo caves are in the centre of the North Island, and the Hggas Honking holes is a
four hour trip through part of the cave system. The cool part about this trip is that we had to abseil down these underground waterfalls, and the deeper you get, the more pressure the water has. Since it had been raining a great deal over the preceeding days, there was more water than usual and I felt like a drowned rat by the end of it. There were a couple of places where we had to swim through completely submerged tunnels, and for a first time caver that was pretty nerve-wracking. Once we had abseiled and climbed down, we had to climb back up, and that is very tiring - wetsuits and water logged gumboots making life hard, certainly a trip for the fit.
This
Photo was taken in November 2001 in Wainuiomata. From left to right: Tim, Me,
Lowie, Kath. We were searching for the remains of a 14 sqn Kittyhawk that
crashed during the war. Due to it's closeness to civilisation there wasn't much
lesft, but we did find the engine, the armour plate and some aircraft skin.
