The course was run by myself and Canadian guitar maker David Freeman. The mass guitar building took place in the Wellington High School's woodwork rooms. Another course is planned for January 2005.
David Freeman has been teaching guitar making in Canada for many years and dozens of his former students are now making instruments in North America. Top quality engleman spruce, cedar, rosewood and mahogany was provided to make the guitars in Wellington.
Students came for all walks of life, and included a hospital surgeon, university students, musicians and a plumber.Limited woodwork experience was no obstacle as the course was designed to take construction one step at a time with instruction on how to use the relevant tools included.
We are now planning for the next course in January 2005, when David Freeman will come back to New Zealand. The course is planned for the first three and a half weeks of January, and requires attendance six days a week.
You only need to bring a notebook and a coffee cup.
Spaces will be limited to twelve people. If you have any questions, or require more information on the course, please contact me.
