The
classical cut-away guitar pictured below was
built from rosewood and European spruce for a California guitarist. He wanted
the instrument to prominently display some New Zealand elements
so it has a rosette cut from solid paua, and a New Zealand timber, rewa rewa,
which also features as a wedge in the back.
The neck is made from Spanish cedar and mahogany, with a lightly radiused ebony
fret board. The instrument is bound in rosewood with maple side purfling. The
bridge is rosewood, with bone saddle and nut. This particular instrument was
custom made to combine the sound and feel of classical and flamenco instruments
to suit the player's bosa nova style of playing.
