Feeding time for the little penguins

Taronga Zoo in Sydney has a colony of about 30 little penguins. The exhibit also includes 3 Fiordland crested penguins.

Little penguins are the smallest species of penguin, and are about 25-30cm tall. They are also called fairy penguins. They are found in both Australia and New Zealand.

Fiordland crested penguins breed in the rainforests along the coastlines of New Zealand's Fiordland Island and Stewart Island. The 3 penguins in Taronga Zoo were found washed up on a beach in Australia and quite badly injured after their long journey. They were taken to the Zoo for rehabilitation and have lived there ever since.
