Sevastopol [Ukraine,
2004]
The Crimean port of Sevastopol - until recently home of the Soviet
Union's Black Sea fleet and closed even to Russians - is heaven for fans
of social-realist art. This statue of a sailor and a soldier, poised to
attack an unseen enemy across the Black Sea, is massive even by Sevastopol's
standards, but is now ringed by weeds and decay.
