Un/installation of Detonator Drivers/INF's for Win XP (Win2k similar)
Download the Detonator driver you want to upgrade
to.
Extract the files to a handy place.
Download the Modded INF for the version of Detonator
you just downloaded.
Copy the original INF of the Detonator into a subdirectory (just incase you
need it later)
Now copy the Modded INF into the Directory where the Detonator was extracted.
(there should be no other INF (other than Setup.inf) in the Directory.
If what you read here makes no sense, don't attempt driver updates. You could
end up with a non-operating machine (it shouldn't blow up), your Reseller and
Manufacturer will not want to know about you playing with things you know nothing
about.
I take no responsibility for what happens, use at own risk. (I have tested drivers
on my own machine before placing here)
But for those of you who want the most from your Video Adaptor read on:
Uninstalling an old driver (only use if old driver is not working properly)
- Press 'Start' then 'Control Panel'
- Press 'Add remove programs'
- Press 'NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Display Driver'
- Remove driver as per instructions.
- Reboot machine


Installing new driver
- Right click on 'My Computer' (on Desktop) or click 'Start' then 'Control
Panel' then 'System' goto step 3
- Press 'Properties'
- Press 'Hardware'
- Press 'Device Manager'
- If you've uninstalled the Detonator first there will be a yellow symbol
with 'Standard VGA Adaptor 'near bottom of window, double click this. If your
updating from previous version (with out uninstall) then double click on 'Display
Adaptor'
- If your updating from previous driver then double click the display driver
that's displayed if you removed driver first then goto step 7
- Press 'Driver'
- Press 'Update Driver'
- Click on 'Install from a list or specific location' then 'next'
- Click on 'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install'
- Press 'Have disk'
- Press 'Browse'
- Now find the location that you've extracted your new Detonator (with modded
INF).
- Click on the Modded INF then press 'OK'
- Now all going well your Video Adaptor should be displayed. If there's a
choice press on your Video Adaptor. Press 'Next'
- You'll now see a window explaining that driver hasn't been Windows Logo
tested, just ignore this and press 'Continue anyway'
- The driver will install its self, after a few moments it will say finished
installation close all windows.
- Reboot. (new driver won't take affect unless you reboot)
- Hopefully when Windows starts up, it takes you back to your trusty Desktop.
If not reboot press 'F5' during boot up (Safe mode) then goto step 1 in Uninstalling
an old driver, and install a previous working driver. (or use rollback
driver to go back to previous driver)
- Enjoy the hidden pages of the nVidia Control panel (overclocking etc)
