General Notes: Husband - Jacob Maude

Jacob inherited Sunniside House on his father's death in 1779.
In 1815 Jacob moved to Selaby Hall near Gainford and let Sunniside House for a while to C.J. Thornhill. This was a short tenancy and in 1817 the house was let to Jonathan Backhouse of Darlington. However, in 1842 Backhouse left Sunniside House and moved to Ashburne House (today in Backhouse Park). Richard White, the brother of Andrew White, Sunderland's first Mayor, who lived nearby in Frederick Lodge, then occupied the mansion. In October 1845 the Backhouse family purchased Sunniside House and soon had it demolished but kept the old gardens as shrubbery.
