Stan saw service in the WW1, being fortunately spared from injury or death.
After the war he worked as a driver in Northland before moving to Auckland and marrying Ivy.

I had a look and the first house in the street was built in 1855 (later than the census) so the existing building may post date their residence. They are very small houses in the street - backing on to the canal and overlooked by the city walls. They would have been a poor family.

An inquest was held into his since it was sudden. Witnesses to the inquest were: his wife Mary Ann; Lydia Reeves, a neighbor; and Thomas Lewis, his doctor.
His death notice reads:
GIBBINS: On April 14, at 1892 (of Ford St). Suddenly, Thomas Gibbins, late of H.M.'s 58th Regiment, the beloved husband of Mary Ann Gibbins, aged 64 years.

Thomas Gibbins remained with the army for many years and was the army bandmaster. He was also the first private bandmaster in Auckland City.
