The name says it all. See a traditional Maori village that was buried in the 1886 Mt Tarawera eruption.
Located one mile from Lake Tarawera, 15 minutes from Rotorua, the Buried Village offers grim evidence of the eruption, which claimed 153 lives.
Walk through the now beautiful grounds and see excavations of the blacksmiths shop, flour mill, barmans house and Rotomahana Hotel. Follow the Te Wairoa stream down through native bush and a cave, beneath spectacular waterfalls.
