Musicool! One-Man-Show!
GREG MCGARITY is offering a very special show suitable for children at primary and intermediate level.
A show rich in learning and enjoyment includes the presentation of a wide variety of instruments (violin, viola, flutes, guitar, voice and sometimes others!). The show has been performed over a hundred times at Auckland schools since 2002, presenting a mix of musical styles.
Featuring short pieces from different genres and periods played on different instruments (sometimes incorporating a backing CD) it is accompanied by an informative commentary which challenges the analytical and creative mind alike. There are also interactive components including questions and question-time, group percussion, song, mime and dance.
The show is a valuable resource for the growth of the child's relationship to music - demonstrating that music, including classical music, is fun, accessible and a "cool" thing to do. The show encourages participation and questions from all children, also developing their communication, social and expressive skills.
The sessions work ideally for one or two classes at a time (up to about 50 children), but it is also possible to play for larger numbers.
Requirements (in order of importance): The school should be able to provide a room with two set-up tables, a CD player with good speakers, box of percussion instruments, music stand, 1 or 2 microphones with stand and amplifier/P.A. system (for larger class sizes), and an overhead projector (for intermediate school children).
“Greg performed for our whole school in their age groupings and they all enjoyed the variety of musical styles and the various instruments he demonstrated. The inter-active telling and playing of a Maori legend also added another dimension giving the children the chance to explore some mime and movement components. A thoroughly worthwhile experience.” - Karen Vernon; Our Lady Star of the Sea School; Howick, Auckland.
