teve McIntyre is a man who is passionate about his trade--building. It was no surprise therefore, that when he wanted to promote the carpentry course at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology he would make sure that everyone who was likely to be interested would hear about it.
Steve promoted an open day through the Careers Expo and in mid-July over 80 students turned up to find out if the building trade was for them.
To break the ice students had their skills in hammering nails, carrying heavy weight and working out maths problems and building terminology tested.
Steve's motives were to promote the NMIT course but  it is important that young people

get an opportunity to see what working in the trades is actually like. The number attending the open day augers well for the future of building.
